It is a house in the middle of nature in calm and rest, it will offer you contemplation and serenity, do not come and look for the artifices of a 5-star palace, you would have mistaken your destination. It's an Hermitage in the comfort of a mountain home. You have to accept nature and know that it always takes over. So you can come across a lizard or a bee, a fly or a vole in the meadow. Be careful in the high herbs in summer, and enjoy the roses that climb without taking your fingers picking them. In winter only the annex's rooms are reserved for visitors who are used to nature (mountaineers, hikers, sailors, athletes ...) for night temperature issues. They have a space heater that can't be maintained at all times and blankets replace technology. These annex rooms heat up in 30 minutes. To soak up the sun and correct the wrong reviews, there are sunbeds and also a table and chairs for lunch outside in the shade of the cherry tree. THE LUXURY OF SILENCE ... what you pick up and find at Domaine des Roches is a luxury that has become rare. Not a luxury of 18th century mirrors and gilding, no, a much simpler luxury, much more frugal and much more spiritual. This luxury is nature and its special silence, it is the contrasting view of the city far at your feet in the plain with its excessive and outsized lights, which turns your back on the mystery and absolute beauty of the Milky Way that you will contemplate as you look up to the West at night. Because today silence has become a luxury, the true sounds of birds responding to each other in the trees, the walking of the beetles on the dead leaves, the construction of ants in the undergrowth, the line of a twisted birch, the hustling of a owl in the night, the throwing of deer in the undergrowth, the sound of a trickle in a pool, the jumping from a frog into the water. This silence above the hustle and bustle of men is the result of patient work for many years to keep this house and its park out of the eyes of the curious, to respect its isolation, and to maintain it throughout the seasons. A house and park at an altitude of 800m like this require a lot of maintenance throughout the year. You have to rake and clean the terraces regularly, pick up the dead branches that fall during thunderstorms, consolidate the dry stone walls around the restanques, trim the hedges, replant trees, prune every year, jam the path, clog the holes made by the sleeves in the limestone joints between the stones, repair the tile roofs when the thunderstorms have shaken them to avoid leaks, tear off the knees and brambles that invade, weed around the house terraces and basins, clean invasive reeds or plants of water, sharpen tools, repair a pick handle, raise a wall, paint inside or on shutters. And then prepare the house for you by eliminating the cobwebs that come back faster, take care of the decoration so that you are comfortable in the light of the bedrooms, repair a heater, a leaking flush, replace chipped dishes, maintain bathrooms and bathrooms again and again. I could tell you all this in detail but this is not your subject. The maintenance of the house to be able to share it with you in good conditions requires much more energy than just living in it, and I do it with great pleasure when I feel all the pleasure I can share with you even when we don't cross paths. So for this rare luxury that is the preserved nature and lively silence of the mountain, I appeal to your indulgence and understanding when nature takes over and surprises us: a storm, a small rodent, some insects, the water or the sun that sometimes becomes hot in summer these years. I invite you to share this rare luxury, and I ask you to respect it by contributing to ensuring that this house and this estate can continue to be shared in a permanent search for aesthetics and harmony with the nature that surrounds it.
