The Artists Residency at Mangalore is a stunning and inspiring space surrounded by bush and landscape. Designed and built by Australian-Austrian abstract painter Anton Holzer, the property was his home and studio for many decades and continues to have a rich, creative legacy. Nestled into established native and European gardens, and surrounded by bushland and valley views in every direction, the studio and gallery is the perfect spot for a restful vacation or a productive, creative stay. The space Bookable for a week or longer, we welcome artists to stay for up to four weeks (possibly longer by negotiation) to immerse themselves in their creative practice. Though designed and built as a painting studio, the space is very flexible and would suit writers, textile artists, drawers, photographers etc. Please note no supplies are provided and must be provisioned by the artists. A 30 minute drive to Hobart or a 20 minute drive to MONA, this spot is the perfect landing for those looking for some rest & relaxation while still being near to the Hobart area. There are also many charming historic towns such as New Norfolk, and Oatlands within a 30 minute drive, popular for antiquing and day trips. A car is essential in this area as there are no walkable shops or restaurants. The studio shares the property with the main dwelling, but is self-contained with its own bathroom and kitchenette. Good dogs are welcomed and encouraged, We don't have any dogs of our own right now but we love them! If you do bring your dog, please keep it on lead to protect the wildlife and birds around us including the property's Guinea Fowl. Wake to the sound of native birds, watch the morning fog roll through, and wander through the gardens for inspiration during your stay to this special place, and perhaps create your next inspired body of work. Guest access Enjoy the self-contained art gallery and studio space, and feel free to wander the property at your leisure. The main house is occupied by the owners of the property, though feel free to use the barbecue and outdoor dining table near the house.
