The space PROPERTY DESCRIPTION & TRAVEL GUIDE History: The two-story stone house in Agios Georgios of Istiaia, built on the edge of the village, next to the stream ("Katsirelo" for the locals) has its own history. The house was built in 1935 with the hard work of the first residents " Tsakarelos" and "Tasia", who carried on her back and on the back of their donkey all the stones needed to build the house, as well as the well in the garden, entirely handmade by the hands of the same woman. The semi-basement, where the rooms are now located, originally used as a cellar and then a loom was placed, where the daughter of Tsakarelos and Tasia, Koula, spent endless hours weaving the dowries of her daughters and all kinds of woven items that the women of the village ordered. During the civil war, the cellar was used as a hiding place and for this reason it communicated with the upper floor through a hatch. From the fairy tales and stories that Tsakarelos improvised and the literary evenings that he organized next to the fireplace to this day, the house has its own stories to tell with feasts, games, smiles, friends and full of beautiful memories. In 1980, significant restoration and maintenance work was carried out by the current owners of the house and in 2009 the house was radically renovated while maintaining its traditional, rustic style and architecture. The house now, decorated by the paintings of the families' F. Sakelli, serves new needs and gradually took shape into what it is today. The upper floor consists of a comfortable living room with fireplace, a large dining room, the kitchen and a WC. The living-dining room is bright during the day, as it is surrounded by large windows and a window-door that leads to the back balcony of the house. In the living room is also the main entrance of the house, which leads to the front balcony. . On the front balcony you can enjoy the view of the garden and the surrounding hills, ideal for refreshing and peaceful evenings, accompanied by the intoxicating scents of jasmine, honeysuckle and the whistles of birds. On the back balcony on the upper floor, one can enjoy the sunrise behind the mountain and an afternoon coffee with the view of the olive trees and the well-kept fields and the trees οn the hills of the surrounding area. In front of the house, the centuries-old Mouria and the imposing Weeping Willow tree dominate, part of the large garden with trees and shrubs around the perimeter, which provide the necessary privacy. The front garden of the house has a sitting area protected by a roof, with a table/dining area, a sofa-swing, an equipped barbecue and a traditional wood-fired oven. At the back of the house there is a field with olive trees and oleanders. The house offers all the comforts for absolute relaxation and pleasant holidays for groups, couples and families with children all year round. It is located practically at the foothills of Mount Telethrio about a fifteen minute drive from its first mountain villages and a twenty minute drive from the nearest beach (Kanatadika and Tsokaitis beaches). The village… Agios Georgios is a quiet village right next to the city of Istiaia, the second largest city of Evia after Chalkida. In the village there are is one restaurant (tavern) with good and cheap food and local tsipouro, one crêperie as well as a bakery. The hills around the village as well as are the quite streets of the settlement are ideal for a relaxing and refreshing walk,. In Istiaia you may find supermarkets, ouzeri, restaurants, cafes, bars and a big market. For good food and tsipouro you can also explore the villages a bit higher from Agios Georgios such as Galatsades, Kamatriades, Kastaniotissa, as well as Taxiarchis. These are coastal wetlands, which are full of reeds and lush vegetation. The waters that feed them come from springs and streams.
