The turtles come out to Tupilapa beach to lay their eggs in the sand. Most of them are already waiting for the egg collectors to take out and sell the eggs for consumption. A prohibited but nevertheless very common practice. Since the Makalo house is located directly on the beach, we gave ourselves the task of incubating the protected nests on the ground. The eggs buried in our yard are from turtles that have come out in front of our house and we were able to protect them or (most of them) we bought them from the egg collectors so that they were not sold to be eaten but to be born. That's what we use a portion of the rental income for. We would like to give guests and all interested parties the opportunity to experience the birth and release of the Turtles, as well as to raise awareness of the importance of protecting these fascinating beings.
