Cook, Dine & Gather Step through the front door into the shaker-style kitchen, fully equipped with everything you will need to cook a fabulous family meal or to enjoy a romantic super for two. There is a washing machine, electric hob and oven, fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle and iron…or maybe you can’t resist the pull of the many lovely restaurants, pubs and tearooms in the nearby towns and villages with our top recommendations available on booking. Leave the kitchen and walk through into the light and bright dining room. The family farmhouse dining table comfortably seats six, where you can happily share meals, laughter, or even a board game or two…it also doubles as a perfect workspace to catch up on any business matters while you’re away. Cosy Living Our light and welcoming sitting room, with a wood-burning effect fire, comfy three-piece suite and the original low-beamed ceiling whispers of the cottage's long history. It’s the perfect spot to curl up after a long walk or day of exploring. please note: the ceiling is a little lower here, in keeping with the cottage's history. So you may need to mind your head! Sweet Dreams Upstairs Head upstairs and you’ll find two inviting bedrooms and a large family bathroom. Bedroom one has a king-sized bed with plenty of storage space including a double wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables plus a full length mirror. Bedroom two has a comfortable double bed
and tallboy wardrobe with hanging space, shelves and drawers, with 2 bedside tables and a long mirror. Soak and Unwind Spacious and light, the large family bathroom features a bath with handheld shower, vanity unit, toilet, and even an easy chair for a touch of comfort. please note; there is no full shower due to the quirky roofline. Step Outside & Enjoy Enjoy the cottage’s own private patio area and small raised lawned garden, perfect for morning coffee, evening drinks, or simply soaking up the fresh air in peace and privacy. We enjoy a lovely village setting right on the river Nene, with a local pub and numerous memorable walks nearby. In an ‘end of village’ location the cottage overlooks cattle pastures whose residents often pop down to the garden fence to say a quick hello (Moo)! Frequently Asked Questions: Can I bring pets? Unfortunately no. We don’t have insurance to cover pets and need to be able to assure our guests with pet allergies, that it is a pet free home. Do you have parking? There is parking at the cottage that can easily fit a large car or two small cars. We are happy for guests to use our driveway as a turning point and also for it to be used for any day visitors, with notice. Can I smoke in the cottage? There is a strictly no smoking or vaping in the property policy. Is the cottage accessible for wheelchair users? Sadly no. Due to the age of the cottage we were not able to widen the doors or make changes to the cottage to make it accessible to wheelchair users. It may not be the right cottage for you if you cannot easily use stairs or need downstairs toilet facilities and bathroom adaptations. Do you provide towels? Yes, you get a white bath towel, bath sheet and hand towel for each guest and complimentary toiletries too. There is an ‘honesty drawer’ in the bathroom vanity unit for all those important bathroom items that you might have forgotten to bring. We do ask though that you please leave the drawer as you found it, and pop a minimum £1 donation for each used item, to keep the scheme running. What household items do I need to bring? We provide tea towels, oven gloves, washing up liquid, washing machine powder and other kitchen basics. We also supply tea bags, instant coffee, milk and sugar as well as a small guest welcome pack to help get your holiday started. Are the stairs steep? When the cottage was renovated we changed the stairs to allow for a standard rise for a property like ours. However the staircase is open (but safe) on one side so it may prove difficult for elderly guests or anyone with mobility problems as there is only one handrail. How is the cottage heated? The cottage is centrally heated with radiators in all rooms. Each bedroom has spare blankets and throws, and there is a small but mighty wood burning electric fire in the sitting room fireplace, so you can get really nice and cosy! Is the cottage infant / toddler friendly? We have welcomed many families with babies and toddlers over the years, but please bear in mind that this is a 400 year old cottage that has not been childproofed. We have two stair-gates, a high chair, wooden toys, books, games, dvd’s and bath toys…please just let us know if you need these ahead of your stay. The garden is fenced but not fully enclosed so little ones will need to be supervised if outside. Does the travel cot have a mattress? The travel cot comes with a standard 'thin' vinyl mattress/base. Your baby will need a softer padded sleeping surface so please bring your own bedding. Do you provide a stair-gate? Yes, with notice. The two stair-gates we supply can only be fixed to the bottom of the stairs and across the doorway of the occupied bedroom. They do not fit across the top of the stairs so children must be supervised when in the bathroom, other bedroom, and on the stairs and landing. It is the guests responsibility to fix the stair-gates safely. Is it possible to work from the cottage? Yes, we have equipped the cottage with broadband and the WiFi code is available on arrival. The router is next to the dining room table, so you can sit and work comfortably. How high are the ceilings? Despite parts of the original cottage dating back to early 1600 the ceilings are not low throughout the house, but there is one beam across the sitting room that anyone over 5ft 10” may have to duck under. In addition, there are sloping ceilings from the roof’s apex on the first floor, but these should not create a problem when you are getting in and out of bed/bath and lying down. Is the cottage detached? Yes, the cottage is detached and set far back away from the main house at the bottom / start of our driveway. Is the cottage’s garden overlooked? No, we have no direct neighbours plus the garden is surrounded by a privacy fence. Is it OK to barbecue? Yes, however due to the cottage only having a small outdoor space we do not provide a barbecue for guests to use. If you choose to bring a portable barbecue to your stay, we ask you to keep any barbecue cooking and naked flames away from the house and wooden shed, and only use firelighters rather than any accelerant liquid. The outside table and chairs will need to be placed on the top lawn as we prefer you to use the patio area to cook on. Please return them to the patio afterwards. Any scorching or damage repair costs will need to be reimbursed. Guest access It's all yours! You have full use of the whole house and attached garden.
