Firefly Cottage

September is firefly season! Relax and reconnect with nature at this unforgettable escape. Located on the Bellinger River at Thora, this unique little yurt is a private oasis in a bushland rural setting. With 110 acres of bushland to explore you can swim with platypus in a secluded section of the river or snuggle up on the verandah and watch the birds, wallabies and other wildlife. The space Firefly Cottage is on Gumbaynggirr Country which is, was and always will be Aboriginal land. We hold deep respect for Gumbaynggirr Elders past, present and emerging and recognise their continuing connection to these lands, waters, skies, plants, animals and communities. Guest access Firefly cottage is easilly accessed directly off Waterfall Way - the driveway loops down under the Thora bridge. TheThora Store is conviniently located just over the bridge and being1/2 way between Bellingen and Dorrigo, this cottage offers easy access to events, markets, national parks and waterfalls in the area. Other things to note If you are a firefly chaser - September is the best time to visit. These elusive little lights only come out for a short 30 minute show just on sunset each night over about 3-4 weeks but you can often see a few early starters in late August and still see stragglers into October.
