The space The space is studio room with king size bed, kitchen facilities, separate bathroom and large deck to enjoy the views and sea breeze. From the end of the lawn area you can be right on the beach at Talihau. This retreat is for those that want to be on their own and also happy to be part of village life in Vava’u – happy to listen to village sounds of chickens, dogs and rosters, see wandering pigs and children walking to and from school, and the ringing of church bells in the morning. If you feel like connecting with the world there is internet available via a Starlink connection. Also, the sleeping space has air conditioning so can leave the windows closed at night. There is a large, covered deck across the front of the cabin with outdoor table and chairs which is sheltered and can be enjoyed for eating outdoors and also reading and relaxing. There is 2 x kayaks available for short excursions for snorkeling and paddle over the island - note they are not ocean-going kayaks. The water is rainwater on tank, so we ask that while staying conserve water. Currently there is no hot water available - we plan on updating this on one of our upcoming trips. Also note for drinking water we advise boil before drinking or if preferred bottled water from town. Note for travelling to Vava'u we recommend Fiji Airways from Nadi as can book online, generous luggage allowance and more reliable schedule and timetable. Guest access On arrival keys will be given for the front door and we ask that you lock the property on leaving. Other things to note We recommend booking Fiji Airways for flights to Vava'u - this can be completed online, has a more reliable service and schedule along with a generous luggage allowance. Talihau Village is approx. 20 minutes from Neiafu town through Pangi and Utungake - you can taxi however ideal is a rental car. These can be booked in Neiafu via Luke Rental Cars - a small car is approx. TOP $75 per day. Luke rental car phone 8608955. The nearest restaurant would be Tongan Beach which is usually open to guests outside the resort - if not the nearest restaurant would be back in Neiafu. Also Sunday is a day of rest in Tonga and therefore on Sunday there is only a limited number of 'tourist' options for lunch and dinner. Reviews from previous Guests prior to March 20: Cindy Coloma, CA Rating 5 out of 5 November 2019 We spent every moment we could on the deck. It is huge, with a gorgeous view. Knowing we would be back in the future and uncertain if this place would be available, we looked at other options for future stays and I can tell you that this is by far the best constructed, most modern unit in all of Vavau. The washing machine was a big plus for us since we were decommissioning our sailboat while staying here and needed to wash lots of things. We never ran out of water, that is supplied by a large tank under the house, fed by rainwater. Also, the refrigerator is almost full size, which was great if you plan on eating most of your dinners at home like we did, or if you want ice for an evening cocktail. (Most other places we looked at had only short dorm- style refrigerators with no freezer.). The bed is comfortable, the village life around you is charming. We never had the weather cooperate on our few days “off” from our boat work to take the kayaks out, but we know that the “Japanese garden” near the islands near the opposite shore has breathtaking coral and tropical fish. If you ever wanted a vacation home in a tropical paradise, this would be it! A wonderful treat. Katrina Auckland, New Zealand Rating 4 out of 5 September 2019 Be part of village life when staying here, perfect spot for a couple. Dining is alfresco on the deck with a picture perfect view of coconut palms, the water and neighbouring islands, but, be prepared to share with the locals! That is, little piglets, chooks, roosters and chicks, dogs and kids making their way down to the beach at the end of the property, great fun! Peti is close by and on hand to help, give local tips and sort out any issues. Jennifer Hong Kong Rating 5 out of 5 August 2019 Quaint little house by the water, great value, has everything you need, perfect for 2, as clean as you can get in Tonga. We stayed the week prior at Tongan beach resort and this bnb was a third of the price and double the enjoyment. Rent a car to get around. Julia Munich, Germany Rating 4 out of 5 November 2018 It's a wonderful place, the views are extraordinary fantastic! The small house is full equiped. (We only missed a small table in the room). Everyday we enjoyed kayak trip to the Japanese Garden and the Cave! 100% recommended! Alicia New South Wales, Australia Rating 4 out of 5 November 2018 Absolutely beautiful little house overlooking the ocean which is stunning rain, hail or shine. It had everything we needed and the kayaks were a great bonus we strongly suggest taking them out. I would recommend hiring a car as town is quite a drive as is a sufficient shop for basic food for each day, and taxi fares add up quickly. But all in all this is a beautiful little spot and would recommend to everyone. Jenny Hobart, Australia Rating 5 out of 5 August 2017 We loved our stay here. The place is small, but all you need. Private and clean with lovely ocean views. We particularly loved staying in a small village and interacting with the locals. We would however recommend hiring a car as it is a little way out of the main town. Cars are super easy to hire once you arrive and pretty cheap.
