On the Red River, inside the Gorge. Close to the best sites & trails. Porch looks into the river 25' below. Outside is a charcoal grill, fire pit, porch swing, benches and chairs. In the loft are queen & twin size beds. Below, is a futon/bed, kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen has a fridge, stove, microwave, coffeemaker, pots/pans, flatware etc. It has TV, heat, A/C, fans, high speed internet, and a 10% discount on kayak rentals on Mill Creek Lake at NBSP. Bring your boats and swimsuits! Unlike almost all other advertised cabins in the area, this cabin is actually inside the Gorge, on the river and surrounded by miles of Forest Service lands. The only other structure in view is our home, which is about 100 yards away and across the road. Due to it's remote location there is no "city" water. The cabin is on a well water system. While we drink the water, and it's fine for showers/washing, we recommend that you bring bottled water for drinking purposes. We have WIFI (not broadband). It's too slow to downloading movies/games. But you should be able to check email, do searches, and make calls. The cabin towers over the river elevated on poles. The covered front porch has a table and chair set, bench and end table. See directly into the river from the porch. Under the cabin is a large charcoal grill (BYO charcoal and lighter) a porch swing, hammock, folding chairs, and a fire pit. You may gather dead and down wood or buy wood from nearby Red River Adventure. The cabin is behind a privacy fence and is gated. There is space for two cars to park. The property is gated and has a privacy fence. Guests have exclusive access to the cabin and surrounding grounds. There is parking for two cars below the cabin. A private path leads to the river below the cabin. Firewood may be gathered if it is already on the ground. Please, no cutting standing trees or gathering large limbs /logs. Our home is across the road about 120 yards from the cabin. We are available if you need us. There are no other occupied buildings or houses within sight of the cabin. Our campground and boat rental business office is 300-400 yards from the cabin and screened by trees. Many rental cabins claim to be "in the Gorge", when in fact they may be miles away. This cabin is one of the few actually located in the Gorge, and is the only one directly located on the Red River. It is surrounded by Federal Forest and the Red River is the only waterway in Kentucky designated as "wild and scenic". We live about 100 yards across the road from the cabin. Other than our home and kayaking business, there are no buildings, houses, stores etc. within miles of the cabin. Bring food and drinks with you. We like to welcome our guests to make sure they are all set and to give them info about the area. We are readily available by phone, messenger, or by simply walking to our home if you need anything. But we know you value your privacy (as we do) and therefore will not intrude on you. While you can walk into the forest from the cabin, it is best to take a short drive to nearby established trail-heads. A free trail map will be provided for you. Sky Bridge Road (AKA 715) is the only road that runs along the river and though the Gorge. The cabin is easy to get to and is located just off of that road. There is parking for 2 cars at the cabin. As we are surrounded by miles of forest, there is always the possibility of a power outage. Bring a flashlight. There is a hand-crank light in the cabin. We will contact the electric company about the outage ASAP, it is usually restored within a couple hours. There are no stores, or much of anything nearby. Rarely, flooding could occur and may effect the area. Mobile phone service in the Gorge is spotty depending on your provider. As this is a rustic cabin in the middle of the woods you may see wasp, flies, around the cabin, as they search out structures to make their home. Beaver, otters, geese, deer, turkeys and other wild life are often near the cabin or in the water. Please do not leave your pet unattended on the property. Well behaved, non-aggressive dogs are welcome. By renting the cabin you agree that you are liable for your pet's actions.
