The space Tucked into the heart of the Devon village of Witheridge, The Church Rooms is a beautifully restored former schoolhouse dating back to 1845. Once filled with the chatter of village children, it’s now a calm, characterful place to gather with family or friends, whether you’re here to explore the moors, walk the coast, or simply slow down for a few days. Set directly on the Two Moors Way, it’s an ideal base for walkers, families, creatives, and anyone who loves places with a story. Original features sit comfortably alongside modern touches, creating a space that feels both special and easy to live in. The space The house sleeps up to 10 across two generous bedrooms with king-size beds, plus a separate bunk room with six bunks. There’s a well-equipped kitchen, WiFi, comfortable shared spaces, and outdoor space for muddy boots, morning coffees, or dogs needing a stretch after a long walk. The standard nightly rate includes the two king-size beds made up and ready for you. The bunk beds give you flexibility depending on how your group likes to sleep. If you’d like additional bunks made up beyond the first four guests, we’re very happy to do this for a small charge of £10 per bunk, per night. This helps us cover the extra laundry while keeping our base price fair for smaller groups. Why we love it here We’re Joey and Jessica Moore, and this village is very close to our hearts. Joey grew up here, we got married nearby, and we’ve spent many happy years in Witheridge with our four children. When restoring The Church Rooms, we tried to create the kind of place we’d want to stay ourselves. Somewhere you can come with friends, bring children, bring the dog, head out for adventures, then come back and properly relax. The history Originally built as the British (Chapel) School, this was one of Devon’s earliest nonconformist schools. At its peak, more than 90 children were taught here by a single teacher, often with frozen ink in winter and no heating at all. Today, the atmosphere is gentler, but the sense of shared stories and village life still lingers in the walls. Location Witheridge sits between Dartmoor and the North Devon coast, making it easy to mix moorland walks, beach days, and historic towns. The village itself has a strong sense of community and a long history stretching back to the Domesday Book. Good to know Pet-friendly by arrangement Full kitchen and WiFi Outdoor space Check-in from 3pm, check-out by 11am Sleeps up to 10 with flexible sleeping arrangements We hope The Church Rooms feels like a place you can truly settle into, whether you’re here for rest, adventure, or a bit of both.
