There is several hill and river walks from the door and miles of road/mountain biking including the popular, Swale Trail. The space Fremington Hall is a four bedroom family home, which we restored from a derelict house. It is an eco-friendly restoration with a feeling of space, history, quality, natural materials and a warm, cosy feel - all with an exceptional attention to detail in addition to energy saving / renewable energy installations to reducing our impact on the environment. Throughout the property we hope you will notice the quality of the lighting, soft furnishings, furniture and bedding. The house has a south/ southwest facing aspect, with a terrace and lawns at the front, ideal for sitting out or playing games in the summer months. Every window is a framed picture, looking out to the surrounding gardens and over Swaledale DISCLAIMER: The private car park is at the bottom of a steep field. It is spectacular approach, however you need to be able to walk up a 70-metre long, grassy, sloping path to access the house; the last 20 metres being particularly steep. Seeing the imposing, grand house from this point is special and makes the walk up form the car park very worthwhile. - See additional photos. The Garden…. We have countless fond memories with friends and family in our special garden as it is an extraordinary place that everyone loves to spend time. We hope you will enjoy the garden as much as we do. Walking around the house, there is a reclaimed York stone path which leads past the orchard, with several fruit trees (and the washing line), towards the front of the house where you will come to the lawns and garden furniture. You can sit out soaking in the breathtaking views over Swaledale. It is an exciting spot for young children to play and explore. We stipulate that guests stay on the mown areas, as there are hidden rocks and hazards in some parts of the garden. There is a BBQ grill for eating outside and a small chiminea to keep warm when the sun goes down. Wandering through the original cast iron gate, this invites you into the field with our newly planted trees towards the car park. The estate is bordered by typical Yorkshire dry-stone walls and giant woodland trees frame the setting. The expansive views across Swaledale are incomparable and because it is south facing, the garden is a nothing less than a scenic sun trap! Downstairs... The kitchen has a reclaimed Yorkshire sandstone flagged floor, a Rangemaster cooker with double oven and energy efficient induction hob, handmade timber kitchen units and an island. It is fully equipped, with crockery and utensils available, a juicer, a food processor, a toaster, microwave and glasses for every occasion. With seating at the kitchen island, there's space to enjoy a leisurely breakfast, or to help (distract) the chefs with their cooking. You can relax and chat on the comfy sofa and armchair in the adjoining living room. There is a wood-burning stove, perfect to creating a cosy atmosphere in the winter months. There is child gate available, which can be erected to divide the living room and the kitchen. We know this can be very useful when you don’t want toddlers in the kitchen area. The large Victorian dining table with eight antique Windsor chairs is ideal for long evenings over dinner or playing a board game. The fireplace is no longer in use however offers an intriguing feature, as does the gong, which we use to alert guests to dinner. We have a ping-pong table that can set up in the dining room, providing hours of fun. There is a downstairs toilet and utility space with washing machine and place to dry clothes. There is also a washing line in the orchard, east of the house. The second lounge has a 3-seater sofa, a 2-seater sofa and Windsor armchair. A cosy dwelling for anyone who wants to watch television on an evening. The television is equipped with streaming services and a DVD player. There is wood burning stove, which makes this room particularly welcoming when it is cold and bitter outside, or on a snowy winter’s night. (They do happen in North Yorkshire)! Upstairs... All 4 bedrooms (3 double and 1 twin) have a view over Swaledale either South or West facing. Many rooms retain original wooden flooring and fireplaces, offering an attractive feature. The mattresses are all high-quality pocket sprung with duvets and cotton bedding provided. The main bedroom has a floor-to-ceiling window offering expansive views, and an ensuite shower room. There is a piano situated in the main bedroom, which can be played by guests, but we politely request that you don’t leave children unattended, and to ensure it is turned off after use. Strictly no food or drink on the piano. The bathrooms are of the highest quality with marble and limestone finishes. The main bathroom boasts a double-ended roll-top bath, and even a double shower. There is a baby changing unit and baby bath (on request). Please note - There are 18 stairs to the internal staircase. There is a stairgate, which should be used only as a precautionary measure. We look forward to welcoming you to our family home, Fremington Hall, and we hope you enjoy your stay. Guest access Guests can use the entire house except for the downstairs extension, which will remain locked throughout your stay. Guests will not have access to the garden shed. No children are allowed in the utility area beyond the downstairs toilet, as this is the plant room where there is a heat pump and water tank. Thank you for your cooperation. Guests have access to the garden, but cannot go beyond the gates on the west side of the path that leads around the house. We stipulate that guests stay on the mown areas, as there are hidden rocks and hazards in some parts of the garden. Guests can enjoy the front lawns, where there is garden furniture and a BBQ grill. There is the orchard, east of the property and any areas that have been mowed are fully accessible to guests. Please note that there is a 70 metre walk through the field to access the house from the car park, the path will be mowed for your convenience.
