The Old Shop, Hingham
The Old Shop, Hingham
Description
The Old Shop, located in the centre of historic Hingham opposite St Andrew’s Church, was originally a general store which has been sympathetically converted with a separate front door, generous foyer, ground floor lounge/diner, well equipped kitchen, two double bedrooms and an attractive shower-room. Utilising their creative talents, many decorative features are handmade by the host. The space The Old Shop is hosted by Sue and Clio who have a background in the performing arts and is part of their Grade II listed house, situated in the centre of the historic Georgian Market Town of Hingham. It is a perfect base if you want to go walking in the countryside, explore the area, attend a wedding or just have a relaxing break. Originally a general store, it has been sympathetically converted with a separate front door, generous foyer, a ground floor lounge/diner, a well equipped kitchen, two double bedrooms and an attractive shower-room. Utilising their creative talents, many decorative features are handmade by the host. THINGS TO NOTE BEFORE YOU BOOK: There is no designated parking space, although parking available nearby. The Old Shop sits on a main road through Hingham so do remember to bring your ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. The Old Shop is attached to the main house (where the hosts will be in residence) by a doorway in the foyer & a small doorway on the first floor. These will remain locked for the duration of your stay. There has been a house on this site since 1595 and the present building dates back to 1730 so some of the floors are uneven/sloped. At present the front facing sash windows in The Old Shop need to remain closed until they are fully refurbished. There are back facing windows in the living/dining room and workshop room which can be opened for ventilation as needed. The heating for The Old Shop is attached to the main house system. Heating is turned on by a timer three times during the day in colder periods. If you require more heat you can text your host who will turn it on. Temperature can also be controlled by individual thermostats on each radiator. There is no TV in The Old Shop so please bring a tablet or laptop with you if needed. There is good free WiFi available throughout the house. There is a workshop room between the kitchen and the bathroom/bedrooms in the annex which is not part of your agreement. There is a runner rug and stanchions which clearly mark the path between the kitchen and hallway. If you are over 5’4” you will need to be careful with some low doorways and limited headroom on the staircase. There is no access for guests to the garden at the rear of the property but you are moments away from two historic greens (The Fairland and Market Place) and minutes away from beautiful country walks. There are no clothes washing facilities available for guests at The Old Shop. PLEASE CONSIDER THESE POINTS CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU BOOK! Guest access Guests have their own front door, foyer, lounge/dining room, kitchen, shower room, and two double bedrooms.
