Hafod Berwyn, off-grid solar-powered old farmhouse

Hafod Berwyn is a beautiful grade II listed farmhouse at the head of a wonderful, tranquil wooded valley. It is off grid with basic amenities including a cooking hob, 12v lights and 45l cooler/fridge, log burners, rainwater collection, an indoor loo and wash basin and an ‘outdoor’ hot shower and washroom. Access is via a half mile pot-holed farm track. The space The property is an old farmhouse with a sitting room and kitchen on the ground floor and three spacious bedrooms on the first floor. There is an indoor loo independently accessible from each of the bedrooms. There is an acre of grounds comprising the old farmyard, paddock and front garden. There is space to accommodate ponies. The grounds include about 80m of shallow mountain stream. The property is adjacent to a bridleway which goes over the mountain to Glyn Ceiriog. Guest access All rooms are included together with access to an outdoor washroom and woodshed for logs. Other things to note Please note that there is no drinking water and hot water comes from a big kettle on the log burner in the kitchen . The property is surrounded by sheep so sadly dogs are not allowed to stay. The area is great for outdoor activities such as hill-walking in the Berwyns, mountain biking, and canoeing on the river Dee or Shropshire Union Canal in Llangollen. There are several guided adventure providers in Llangollen. Also a perfect place for painting, writing, retreats, digital detox or just a peaceful break sitting in the south-facing yard watching the buzzards, peregrines, red kites and ravens wheeling about overhead and listening to cuckoos. If you are lucky you may even see a hen harrier. Children love the sense of freedom and space.
