The Swallows Rest, Avebury

Nestling quietly in incredible Avebury, close to the extraordinary historic henge and stone circles - a UNESCO world heritage site - the Swallows Rest offers a welcoming, safe and cosy retreat to switch off and relax. Beautifully furnished in a former farm barn, great base for exploring Avebury and the fabulous Wiltshire countryside. Private parking. Accessible by public transport (train to Swindon then 49 bus). Solo travellers welcome. Revitalise and have ‘the best night’s sleep ever’. The space The Swallows Rest is set in a black barn conversion of Bannings Yard, part of an 1850s former carthorse and hay barn for the adjoining old farm of Bannings. You will enter the property through your own private entrance via the atrium, a light, vaulted space (where the sheep were once sheared.) Ahead of you from the front door is the laundry room with modern washing machine and tumble drier. Head up the stairs to the beamed first floor, where you will find your main bedroom with a queen sized double bed. You have views over the garden and surrounding farm fields towards St James Church and Avebury Manor. There is a Georgian oak table plus a kettle, coffee machine, teas and coffee and welcoming snacks.. There are two velvet dining chairs provided. Walk through from here to a bright, squeaky clean en-suite bathroom with a generous shower. There is a second room with a full sized fridge and small freezer and a writing table (which can be opened out to make a small dining table). There is also a sofa bed in this room which can be made up into a single bed (please advise in advance). A cot can also be provided - please ask. On the landing is a reading nook containing a brightly coloured armchair with another dedicated space to view the swallows nesting in summer (please respect their presence!) Due to the staircase and no lift we regret that this space is not suitable for wheelchair use. Sorry no pets. You will have free use of the laundry facilities (modern washing machine and tumble drier) on the ground floor (shared facility with the owners). In this room is a microwave and toaster. Please note is no kitchen at the property but you do have a kettle, coffee machine, toaster and microwave. Crockery, mugs, glasses and cutlery, bowls etc plus milk, tea, coffee and sugar are provided for your stay. A few treats will be also provided for you to make your stay an extra bit special. Avebury village is easily walkable from here (7 minutes) over Church Walk, crossing a little bridge over the River Kennet. The megalithic stone circles are accessible for free and are again 7 minutes walk away. Guest access Guests at the Swallows Rest have their own entrance, accessed through the atrium, and their own private rooms and space (a reading nook on the landing and a swallows viewing space) on the first floor. The main bedroom has a queen sized bed, storage space and a chest of drawers. Off the main bedroom is the full en-suite bathroom with basin, shower and loo. In the second room there is a desk and chair - a dedicated writing space - the desk can also be opened out to make a small dining table. There is also a sofa bed which can be made up into a single bed (please advise in advance) or simply used for additional relaxation space. There is a large retro green fridge in this space. Downstairs guests can have access to a laundry room with new washing machine and tumble drier, shared with the owners. There is additionally a microwave and toaster here. Other things to note Sorry no pets save for service animals. Due to the steep staircase and no lift, this listing is not suitable for wheelchair users and whilst children are welcome, please note your rooms are upstairs!! Please note there is no TV nor kitchen at the property but there is a kettle, coffee maker, glasses and crockery and cutlery, decent sized refrigerator and freezer and also microwave and toaster provided (the latter two in the laundry room).
