Studio with direct access to Mendip Way

The perfect base for exploring the West Mendips, with direct access to Crook Peak, the Strawberry Line and King’s Wood. The Studio @ King’s Wood is a newly renovated, self-contained annexe adjacent to our home. It features a comfy king-size bed, seating area, ensuite shower room, and toaster, fridge and kettle. Breakfast basket included. Surrounded by nature, it offers privacy while still being just a short drive from Cheddar, Axbridge and Winscombe. Parking for one car is available on site. The space The Studio features WiFi, luxury towels and bedding, a memory foam mattress, toiletries and toilet roll, tea, coffee and sugar, and a Smart TV. A breakfast basket is included in your stay (typically bread, jam, marmalade, butter, yogurt, milk, fruit and orange juice). Parking for one vehicle is available on site. Please note there are no cooking facilities other than the toaster, fridge and kettle. UPDATE July 2026: We’re trialling the allowance of one small, well-behaved adult dog per stay. The studio is compact, so it isn’t big enough to give a larger dog the room it needs to be comfortable - which is why we’re limiting this to one adult dog of no more than 15kg per booking. We also live on site with a young child, so this comes with a few firm conditions: dogs must be fully house-trained, calm around people (including small children), and never left alone in the studio or garden. A £15 pet fee applies. We’ve owned the property since May 2024 and are continuing to update the house and grounds. You won’t experience any noise or disruption during your stay. Parts of the garden are intentionally left ‘wild’, and renovation works on the far side of the house (away from the studio) are visible as you enter the driveway. Guest access The Studio has its own entrance, offering guests privacy throughout their stay. The garden is shared with us and you’re welcome to explore and enjoy it. There are various benches and seating areas, including a dedicated spot just outside the Studio reserved for your use. Parking is shared, with space available for one guest vehicle. Other things to note Location The Studio is ideally located for those seeking to explore the West Mendip Hills. Situated at the base of the trail leading directly to Crook Peak via the West Mendip Way, it offers immediate access to some of the region’s most scenic walking routes. Adjacent to the house is King’s Wood, a National Trust site known for its ancient woodland and tranquil surroundings. As the property is next to a popular National Trust site, the area can be busier during the day, particularly at weekends, but is generally much quieter in the evenings. Guests also benefit from direct access to the Strawberry Line, a popular traffic-free route suitable for walking and cycling. Winscombe Drove, located just 0.2 miles away, provides convenient access to the mountain biking trails of Rowberrow Warren. The historic villages of Axbridge and Winscombe are both reachable on foot via the Strawberry Line or within a five-minute drive. Cheddar, with its famous gorge and caves, is just a 10-minute drive away. Dining options nearby include The Sidcot Arms (0.6 miles) and both The New Inn and The Woodborough Inn, approximately a one-mile walk from the property. Bristol Airport is 9 miles away by car or bus. Accessibility Below are details about the accessibility features and potential challenges of the property. Driveway: The approach to the property includes a gravel driveway. Please be aware that the gravel surface may be uneven for those with mobility challenges. Entrance: There is a step up through the front door. Guests with limited mobility may find this challenging, and we recommend considering this when booking. Interior: Once inside, the property is all on one level. The space between furniture and in the bathroom, however, could be restrictive for guests with limited mobility.
