Designed for a simple, nature-based stay. No A/C. Heating via wood stove. The space Welcome to The Root House, a handmade off-grid retreat nestled in Apokoronas, Chania. Surrounded by 2,000 m² of trees, gardens, a small chapel, and vegetable patches, the home embodies Cretan tradition and sustainable living. At the entrance, you'll find an outdoor kitchen with two gas stoves, a natural spring water tap, and a large dining table for 8, the perfect spot to enjoy simple meals in nature. Nearby, a garden bathtub invites you to relax, alongside a full bathroom with toilet and shower. Inside, the 6 m² ground floor includes a G-shaped built-in sofa (sleeps 1), a kitchenette with fridge and sink, and basic supplies (plates, cutlery for 4, Greek and French coffee, olive oil, salt). A steep wooden staircase leads to the mezzanine with two beds (110x190 & 150x200), a small WC, and a spacious balcony with stunning mountain views of the Samaria range. This is a stay for those seeking calm, simplicity, and authenticity, couples, nature lovers, writers, anyone looking to slow down and reconnect with the land, themselves, and a traditional way of life. Guest access Guests have full and exclusive access to the entire fenced property, including the house, outdoor areas, garden bath, and private parking. There is also a vegetable garden just outside the fence, guests are welcome to visit it with the host to pick seasonal produce, but it's not freely accessible on their own. Other things to note We’re happy to help you experience Crete like a local. Upon request, we can arrange airport transfers, car rentals, and concierge services. We also collaborate with local experts to offer authentic cultural experiences, such as learning how Cretan cheese is made, witnessing traditional sheep milking, or joining a Cretan cooking class.
