Description

Aberdeen Lighthouse Cottages, only 10 minutes from the city centre, are the perfect place to relax next to the sea. This coast is one of the best places in Europe to see dolphins. Cottage 4 has 2 bedrooms (sleeps 4) and is a conversion of the original 19th century machinery room. With a professional interior design, it is very comfortable with a 4* Visit Scotland grading. Guests can bring one dog. CHILDREN ARE WELCOME. The space Cottage 4 (2 bedrooms, sleeps 4) is one of our three lighthouse cottages. The others (Cottages 1 and 2) are listed separately here on AirBnB. Cottage 4 is the only property which accepts a dog. The property was converted from the original Victorian fog-horn machinery room several years ago. The fog-horn itself has been decommissioned and is no longer in use although it can still be seen on the nearby coast road. We provide a welcome pack of bread, milk, cheese and eggs etc as well as tea and coffee. The surrounding area is a true natural beauty spot with the dramatic coastline forming part of the District Wildlife Site. The cliffs attract a wide range of wild birds, bottlenose and white dolphins which are a popular sight swimming up and down the coast. The nearby mouth of Aberdeen harbour is one of the best places in Europe to watch dolphins playing and feeding. And yet .... Aberdeen city centre is only two miles away. The property is equipped with TV with Sky channels, DVD, WiFi, laundry facilities, fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher, fridge freezer and capsule coffee machine. Offering a friendly, professional service, our team is dedicated to making sure your stay is comfortable. The cottage's location is majestic, on a headland just 2 miles from Aberdeen city centre. There is a golf course adjacent to the property which is open to the public. Sets of clubs can be hired there. The Lighthouse is a prominent landmark on the coast just south of the city and is easily seen when you are arriving in Aberdeen by air, ferry or rail. Guest access Whole house. Private entrance and shared I acre grassed area Other things to note Aberdeen is a city that looks and feels quite different. Not just on a summer’s evening, when it is daylight at 11pm. Not just because it is lined with classic granite buildings that help make this “one of the most architecturally distinctive cities in Europe”. But mainly because this isn’t just a city by the sea, it’s a city of the sea. A city where ships dock right up against the city-centre streets. Where urban dolphins leap at the harbour mouth. Where locals paddle-board and surf off the city beach. And golden sands stretch for miles – towards vast dunes to the north and high cliffs to the south. It’s a city of rivers too, where the Dee and the Don meet the sea, bringing crystal clear waters from the Cairngorm mountains. This is a city with not one but two Old Towns: Old Aberdeen, with its cobbled streets, mature trees and 15th century fortified cathedral – where Aberdeen’s first University was founded in 1495. And then there’s Footdee – known locally as Fittie – a quirky fishing quarter at the water’s edge, with squares of tiny cottages, flower-filled gardens and brightly painted outhouses, their eccentric decorations drawing on the city’s seafaring soul. Aberdeen is a cosmopolitan and connected place. Up to now, it’s a city that’s been mostly off the tourist map. Which all adds up to a different and authentic sort of city altogether.
