The space //Neighborhood// Our hostel is located in a neighborhood in transition. It can look rough to some visitors. We aim to be budget friendly accommodation and may not be the best fit someone expecting an upscale experience. //What does the R&R stand for// Rest, Relax, Reduce, Reuse. R&R Hostels are filled with salvaged furniture and thrift store finds. The decor is eclectic. The model is sustainable. We transform rundown houses into homes. //What are Hostels// Hostels are hospitality businesses that have shared rooms and spaces. The meaning of a hostel is that you only pay for your bed, and share the rest of the room's space with other people you don’t know. Due to this "co-habitation" set-up, the prices for this type of stay are much more affordable. The "do it by yourself" hostel culture also lends towards creating a vibe very different from that of a traditional hotel. The environment is much more laid-back and collaborative. //What to expect// The expectation is that all of our R&R guests will pitch in to make a harmonious co-living atmosphere. Guests are often a mix of longer term stays and one night roadtrippers. Are you looking to move to the area or on a short term work assignment? R&R Hostels is your spot. Because we renovate previously forgotten homes, our hostels are often located in forgotten neighborhoods. The neighborhood is in transition. We do our best to create a safe environment with added camera security and a secure key code system. Please BE ADVISED the neighborhood is a little on the rougher side. Once you come inside our funky little home, you get the opportunity to bond with your fellow guests. Share coffee and swap travel stories. Look out for each other. The cool thing here is that even if you are traveling alone, you have the opportunity to have a social experience. We do not pretend to be a five-star hotel. The reviews tell the story. //Setup// The R&R Hostel// Birmingham consists of four private rooms, a dorm room, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a comfortable living room (all of which are shared). The bathroom is located down the hall, off the kitchen. This listing is for a private room. So, while you may be making new friends around the common areas, you will have your own space to retreat to. Washer and dryer access is available, for $5 fee you can purchase detergent/dryer sheets. Laundry Access is available from 6pm to 9am. The house hosts a MAX of 10-11 at a time and we do stay mostly booked. Guest access //The neighborhood// The neighborhood can look a little rough to a non-local. We are in a quiet residential area north of Fountain Heights and west of downtown Birmingham. While our house has been completely renovated, not all the house on the block have been. If you're looking for something in the heart of Birmingham, this isn't your best bet. If you don't mind taking a quick drive, then we are you spot.
