The Penthouse is a cool spot located very close to Downtown Eau Claire's shops, restaurants, and bars. It's a 15 minute drive from the music festival grounds (Eaux Claires, Blue Ox, Country Jam) and a 7 minute drive from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. You’ll love our place because of it's coziness, eclectic decor, safe neighborhood, and convenient location. All are welcome at The Penthouse, even furry friends! The Penthouse is the cozy, affordable, and sunny upper apartment of our duplex. Located right across from a school and just up the hill from downtown, it's in a great central location for whatever may bring you to town. It has a fully stocked kitchen, a comfortable living room, two spacious bedrooms, and a nice bathroom with a full shower/tub. It also has a large backyard with your own deck area and access to a shared fire pit. The house was built in 1891 and has been refurbished into a nice and modern space, while still retaining much of its "old house" charm. We work hard to provide a clean and comfortable Airbnb, but want all guests to know before booking that our home is over 125 years old. While it has been maintained with care, the feel of our space is not like that of a hotel. We love this about The Penthouse - there is plenty of charm and a relaxed, cozy feel. It's truly a home away from home! However, if you are looking for a vacation home, hotel amenities, or a luxurious feel, our place probably isn't for you. To help you feel at home we provide the following: -Guidebook to our favorite food, drink, and fun in Eau Claire -Coffee pot (Coffee and creamer provided) -Comfortable linens -Wireless internet - speedy for streaming, zoom calls and any online work from home tasks -A dining table (Great for eating meals together or spreading out to get your work done) -A small TV with a Roku device for streaming, DVD player, and selection of DVDs -Board and card games to play -Shampoo, conditioner, soap, and towels -Everything you need to cook while you stay (Minus the food, of course! We have plates, bowls, glasses, pots, pans, silverware, utensils, etc.) -Charcoal grill -Access to shared bonfire pit and lawn chairs (Let us know if you'd like us to set this up for you!) -Lots of storage (Drawers and pantry in kitchen, dresser in each bedroom, closet in each bedroom with hangers and shelving) -Key-less, coded entry to make check-in flexible for you (We supply the code, you check in when convenient) -Plenty of free street parking available (great if you'll have multiple cars or a truck/trailer) The upper level apartment of the duplex is yours during your stay with private access and no shared space. We live in the downstairs apartment, so we are close by if needed. We interact with our guests as much or as little as they like. We live right downstairs in a separate apartment so we are close by if you need us, but we like to allow guests a space of their own. We love meeting our guests and would both say that the highlight of hosting has been getting to know so many wonderful people! The Penthouse is up the hill from Eau Claire's thriving downtown area in a charming older, well-maintained neighborhood, just across from an elementary school. We love the energy the school brings. Walk two blocks to Sue's award-winning Bake Shop or bike the trail system from our house along the river bank to Phoenix Park, the scenic confluence of the Eau Claire and Chippewa Rivers. In the summer months, Phoenix Park is the put-in site for tubing down the river and also hosts a weekly farmers' market and Music in the Park, which draw in thousands of people each weekend. For the adventurous traveler, we can direct you to a nearby secret beach complete with a rope swing. In colder months, take a jaunt over the wooden walking bridge to Boyd Park which has ice skating, ice sculptures, and weekly late night bonfires. Or cozy up to some world-class jazz at one of our favorite spots - The Lakely, just down the hill. There's something for everyone in Eau Claire and we are in a central location to just about all of it! Free street parking is available in front of our house on year round. No car? Don't worry - there's quite a bit that's in walking distance or there is a public transportation system that stops just on the corner of our street. The recent addition of Lyft and Uber also make navigating Eau Claire super easy and convenient! This apartment has a small TV, with a Roku device for you to connect to your favorite streaming service. There is no basic cable package on the TV. Again, please note this is an old home. If you are wanting hotel-like amenities and feel for your visit, we encourage you to consider other local listings or hotels. If you want a home-y place to relax while you are away, we would love to host you! Please also keep in mind that our family lives in the downstairs apartment. While we try to be very mindful of our volume and respectful of our guests, you will likely hear us from time to time. If you are a light sleeper or looking for a very quiet space, this may not be the right stay for you.
