The space Historic 1640s Retreat – Light, Space & Soul in a Wine Village Welcome to a unique retreat in the heart of Stratzing – a quiet Austrian wine village near Krems and the Wachau Valley. Set in a lovingly preserved 17th-century estate, this 166 m² apartment offers light, space, and a sense of timeless calm. You’ll find a generous, sunlit living room, a stylish dining/study salon, three comfortable bedrooms (one with a double bed, one with a single, one with a pull-out sofa), and a well-equipped kitchen – all designed with understated charm and clarity. The space currently hosts internationally exhibited oil paintings, which lend it a quiet, thoughtful atmosphere. This is not a hotel – the creaking doors and thick old walls tell stories. It’s a place for people who value authenticity over polish, and atmosphere over perfection. There’s no flashy luxury, but plenty of room to breathe, reflect, and enjoy. Perfect for couples, small families, art lovers, and travelers who appreciate quiet beauty and meaningful spaces. A private parking spot is included. Vineyards, walking trails, the Danube, and the medieval town of Krems are all close by. Stratzing offers the best of rural Austria: nature, history, and serenity. Whether you’re interested in visiting local wineries and taste wine in the village, biking along the Danube, swimming in the Kamp, exploring medieval Krems, or just slowing down — this is the perfect base. Come find your stillness, your view, your inspiration. Guest access 🪴 Note on Outdoor Areas The front garden, the barn, and the balcony facing the courtyard are used privately by the hosts. You're very welcome to relax in the back garden, where you'll find a dining table and a bench at your disposal. (If you'd like, we're happy to lend you a blanket or hammock – just ask.) A private parking space is available behind the house. Please make sure to always keep the gates closed, so that our sweet dog Mylah stays safely on the property. Other things to note A few extras to make your stay even more special This place is more than just a place to stay — it’s an experience. 🌿 Each apartment is equipped with a worldwide internet radio and a curated list of inspiring stations, plus a small printed guide for your inner traveler. 🌼 You’re welcome to pick herbs from the garden for your cooking, or bring in a bouquet of flowers to brighten up your room. or taste our seasonal fruits (like mirabelles or elderflowers) for your own use during your stay — whether it’s to enhance a meal or to bring some scent into your room. Please just take what you need, and do not harvest large amounts or take things home. We want to share the garden with all our guests — thank you for your understanding 📸 We also offer seasonal rentable experiences - from photo safaris, SUP sessions to art workshops - and we’ve created a guide to our absolute favorite local spots (from wine taverns to hidden hiking trails). 🐾 Our quiet, shy rescue dog Mylah lives with us on the property — a sweet Greek setter. Please make sure the gates are always closed so he doesn’t go on adventures of his own! 🏡 This is a historic home, full of charm — and with it, a few quirks. The front gate may need a little pull, the floors may creak, and nothing is polished like a showroom. If you're looking for perfection, this might not be your place — but if you love soul, nature, and simplicity, you’ll feel right at home. As Guests you enjoy your own private parking space behind the house, and access to a large shared garden full of quiet corners. Please always keep the gates closed – our dog Mylah (a gentle rescue from Greece) lives here and must stay safely inside the property. This place is best suited for guests who appreciate old houses with character, enjoy a slower rhythm, and value calm over perfection. If you expect sleek design and flawlessly gliding doors, this might not be the best fit — but if you’re looking for a place with soul, we’re happy to welcome you. We are here, too, and are always happy to answer questions, share a story, or even give you a glimpse of the old wine cellar if you're curious. Pony riding available nearby (great for kids!) The house is not polished like a showroom, and that’s on purpose. It’s full of character, creaky doors, uneven stone, and old stories.. Ideal for: – creatives needing headspace – travelers craving authenticity – lovers of old houses and rural stillness ✨ For Groups & Special Occasions – Available on Request For couples traveling together or small groups, a second charming apartment in the same house can be booked additionally. On request and for an extra fee, the courtyard can be made available ✨ for small celebrations, gatherings or special moments. The barn can also be rented separately – 🪵 perfect for workshops, retreats or creative sessions in a unique atmosphere. Just reach out – we’ll be happy to provide a tailored offer. Important information: On weekends, especially in summer, buses only run sporadically. Having a car is therefore recommended. An Uber to Krems currently costs around €20 each way. The main apartment currently hosts works from NEW AURA by Lulu Schmidt x The Ghost. The oil paintings usually travel between exhibitions, galleries and special places. When they are not on show elsewhere, they rest here on our walls. So you are not only staying in a historic house, but also inside a small exhibition. The artworks are available for purchase on request. Looking forward to meet you!
