A sanctuary in the Somerset countryside, The Croft is an architect designed barn, set amongst fields and with magnificent views to The Tor and yet a short distance to Glastonbury Festival and neighbouring villages. Full of light and with large picture windows, relax on the balcony, dine alfresco and observe an abundance of wildlife - birds, deer, hares and fields of wildflowers in season. An idyllic retreat from the hustle and bustle of life. The space The Croft has large picture windows and is full of light, it has an open plan living and kitchen area with a vaulted ceiling which has bi-fold doors opening onto a long balcony overlooking the fields to Glastonbury Tor. There is a separate bedroom with a king sized bed with sumptuous bed linen, again overlooking the fields and an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in rain shower. All is newly designed and fitted. If you wish to dine alfresco, you may dine on the balcony or make use of the private courtyard area below which opens onto our field. Please note this property is only suitable for a couple or a single, as there is one bedroom with a king size bed. Should you require an additional sleeping space please enquire with the host. An additional fee will be payable for an extra bed. Guest access The Croft is designed aloft and therefore accessed via a flight of stairs. It has its own courtyard area and long balcony overlooking the fields. You are welcome to walk in the field in front of the balcony. The gate at the top of the field will take you out onto the lane and from here there are many lovely walks through the countryside. *Please note, if you have mobility issues the staircase may not suit you. Other things to note If you wish to stay put, relax and recharge, there is no need to go anywhere as the large windows bring the outside in, looking out across the fields. Read, watch the wildlife or dine alfresco on the balcony or courtyard area. If you would like to explore on foot, there are many local walks through the lanes and fields or to neighbouring villages. The Croft sits just outside the village which has a local shop. Every Thursday evening you will find Glastonbury Wood Fired Pizza outside the village hall and on alternate Fridays there is a pop-up Fish & Chip van outside the village pub. Somerset is home to wonderful local produce which can be found in local markets and farm shops. If you’d like to dine out, you are spoilt for choice with local pubs, cafes and restaurants - a list of our recommendations is provided in the property. If you’d like to explore the local area, Glastonbury town and the legendary Tor are a short distance away. Pretty villages can be found at Castle Cary, Somerton and Bruton, all with lovely eateries and Bruton is home to the internationally renowned Hauser & Wirth gallery. For those who love gardens and home grown produce The Newt is 15 minutes away, or their Creamery at Castle Cary station provides both a delicious farm shop with on premises handmade cheese and yoghurt and a sumptuous afternoon tea. A short 25 minute drive will take you to the smallest city in England, the Cathedral city of Wells, with Wells Cathedral one of the best examples of Gothic architecture. The Cathedral is open to visitors and every day Evensong is sung by the Choristers and Choir of Wells Cathedral. Wells is interesting historically, with the stunning architecture of Wells Cathedral School, the oldest school in Europe, the medieval street of Vicars’ Close and the grounds of The Bishops Palace. For larger city excursions, Bath and Bristol are both within an hour’s drive or accessible by train from Castle Cary station and Clarks Village is 15 minutes away for outlet shopping.
