Murugo Bay is a lakefront retreat on Lake Kivu — a place where design, nature, and tranquility meet. Nestled in landscaped gardens, three hand-crafted thatched bandas are linked by canopy walkways, creating a seamless flow between indoor comfort and outdoor serenity. Guests can enjoy a firepit, a private beach with kayaks, family-friendly amenities, and panoramic views of Lake Kivu. The space Three Bandas, One Home - The central Murugo Banda is the shared heart of the property, connected by canopy walkways to two private bedroom bandas. Outdoor Living - Enjoy a private sand beach with kayaks, a suspended lookout point, and a firepit under the stars. Design Details - Volcanic rock showers, custom woodwork, and open-air lounges celebrate local craftsmanship. Families are warmly welcomed. Cribs, toddler beds, highchairs, toys, and life jackets are available — so you can travel light and still feel at home. “Murugo” means “home” in Kinyarwanda — not just a place, but a feeling of belonging, peace, and love. That is the essence of Murugo Bay: a place where you arrive as a guest and leave feeling rooted. Ikaze murugo — welcome home. Guest access As a full-property rental, you and your party have exclusive access to all areas of Murugo Bay. Shared & Central Spaces: - Central Banda (“Murugo”): Includes the custom-designed living room, dual-toilet bathroom, two outdoor-access showers, dining area, fully equipped kitchen on the ground floor, plus the open-air lounge and dining area upstairs. - Canopy walkways: Guests can explore and move freely throughout the property via the lit network of connecting pathways. Private Bedrooms: - Banda East & Banda West: Each has its own two-level layout—open-air lounge with kitchenette on the ground floor, and enclosed bedroom upstairs (California King bed with mosquito net, en-suite bathroom with volcanic-rock rain shower, and private balcony). Outdoor Areas - Look-out point: Accessible via a suspended walkway connected to the central banda. - Private sand beach: Use the kayaks, fishing rods, and lawn/beach games. - Outdoor fire‑pit: Built-in seating and firewood are provided for cozy gatherings. - Landscaped gardens & pathways: Built for both beauty and navigational ease, and softly lit to enhance atmosphere after dark. In Summary: You have full, unrestricted access to every space on the property—from the cozy interiors to the adventurous outdoors—enjoyed exclusively by you and your group. Other things to note Housekeeping & breakfast — Housekeeper cleans the main kitchen and common areas early each morning (discreetly). Breakfast included. Wi-Fi & tech — Starlink Wi-Fi; Sonos on both floors of the central banda; universal adaptors throughout. Family Pack (free on request) — Set up for little ones at no extra charge: - Bedroom setup: baby cribs or toddler beds (with mosquito nets) + baby bath. - Bathroom: step stool in the central Murugo bathroom. - Kitchen & dining: highchairs, Stokke chairs, child-friendly tableware, and a learning tower. - Living room: kids’ table and chairs. - Waterfront & boat: life jackets for babies and toddlers for the arrival boat trip and water activities. - Playtime: a kids’ bookshelf and family games (including the memory game and classic pick-up sticks). - Indoor toys: large train set with accessories, colourful wooden blocks, Magnatiles, Kapla, and more. - Outdoor play: kite, frisbee, Tonka trucks, and sand toys in the outdoor games shed. Smoking & pets — Please smoke only in the designated outdoor area (ashtrays provided). No pets. No candles or open flames inside any banda. Water safety — All water activities are at your own risk; children must be supervised at all times. Risk of schistosomiasis in Lake Kivu. Security & emergencies — 24/7 security guards on the compound; fire extinguishers (central banda, both floors; in each bedroom banda); first-aid kit in the central banda. In an emergency, boat evacuation to Maison St. Benoît can be arranged. Waste — Bins available in the kitchen; designated area behind the central banda for garbage, recycling, and compost.
