The space This cosy Forest of Dean cottage is a relaxed and welcoming base for family adventures. Surrounded by trees and farmland it’s easy to reach woodland walks, cycle trails, attractions and historic towns by car — so there’s always something to do, whatever the weather. After busy days out, you can cook an easy meal in the fully equipped kitchen, enjoy a barbecue in the garden, or snuggle up indoors with games, books and a film night. If you’d rather eat out, several friendly country pubs are just a couple of miles away. Once a Victorian village shop, the cottage is full of character and charm. While it’s ideal for families with babies and children, it also works well for couples or friends looking for a cosy cottage. Living Room - spacious and airy with a feature fireplace and electric fire - 43” smart television (access to streaming apps like Prime Video, Disney+, Netflix using your own accounts) - bluetooth speaker - garden views - blankets to snuggle up with Dining Area (within the living room) - table comfortably seats 4 but extra chairs, highchair and booster seats are also available (on request) - games and books (for adults and children) - shoe storage Kitchen - well equipped country-style kitchen - coffee/hot drinks station - electric cooker - slimline Bosch dishwasher - large Bosch fridge freezer - washing machine - microwave - kettle - coffee machine and cafetières - 4 slot toaster - food processor - small air fryer - iron, ironing board - cleaning equipment and supplies Coffee & Hot Drinks Station To help you settle in, there's a small drinks station with a traditional style filter coffee machine, two cafetières, ground coffee and a small selection of teas and instant coffee. Temperature We have blankets in the bedrooms and living room for you to snuggle up in the evenings. Due to our rural location we do not have a gas supply and there are electric heaters in the bedrooms, bathroom and living room. In the warmer months there are two portable oscillating tower fans for your comfort if needed. Garden The cottage is on a main road, so there is traffic noise in the garden. To make the most of the space we’ve added a dining area and there is a small enclosed area with a small play zone for younger children to enjoy. - enclosed rear garden - dining area (table and four chairs with parasol) - picnic ware - charcoal barbecue - young children's play area - storage seat - a small selection of outdoor games - boot rack for muddy wellies We’re Family Friendly We know travelling with babies and children can be a challenge, so we’ve tried to make family stays as easy and comfortable as possible. On request, we can provide a range of infant essentials including a baby bath, potty, highchair, playmat, toys and books — just let us know what you need before arrival. The cottage is also fitted with stairgates for our youngest guests (0–2 years). We love making sure little ones enjoy their stay too. There’s a small, fenced outdoor play area ideal for younger children, along with a thoughtfully chosen collection of books, games and toys suitable for ages 0–11 years. Travelling with twins? We know that holidays with twins can feel like packing up half the house — so we’ve tried to think ahead. We’re very happy to provide two travel cots, two highchairs and other duplicate essentials to make things that little bit easier. There’s extra bedding and towels for little ones, and an enclosed outdoor play area where they can safely stretch their legs and burn off some energy. If you’ll need two of everything prepared for your stay, just let us know before you arrive and we’ll have it all ready and waiting for you. Guest access The cottage is attached to the owner’s family home and has its own parking area, separate entrance and private garden. There is guest parking for 1-2 vehicles outside the property. Guests have access to the entire cottage with the exception of a small supplies cupboard. Simple self check-in via lockbox (container that stores keys securely outside the home) means you can start your holiday your way, on your schedule. Detailed directions are sent to guests before their stay. There are a couple of steps to the front door of the cottage. Due to a recently added shower cubicle the toilet area is quite narrow (please see photo of the bathroom). Other things to note The cottage is set in a convenient spot on the main road (A4136) offering easy access to the Forest of Dean, the Wye Valley and surrounding area, it also has direct links to the A40. Like many traditional properties in such locations, there is traffic noise in the garden, but indoors it is minimised due to acoustic double glazing. Being an older property, the cottage was not originally designed with a bathroom. We’ve carefully added modern facilities, including a new shower cubicle, to bring extra comfort while preserving its character. This does mean the toilet area is quite compact, so we recommend viewing the photos to ensure it suits your needs. For stays of 7 days or more we provide a change of towels and a change of bedding for 14 nights. We also have an extra cleaning service (charges apply) if you require this during your stay. Check-in is from 3pm (15.00) (via a key lockbox) and check-out is 10am.
