Amaranth, Mountainside Villa in Golden Rock Estate
Description
Amaranth, a charming historic villa built by the family who first transformed Golden Rock from a plantation into an inn, features traditional West Indian colonial architecture and timeless island charm. Set on the lush slopes of Nevis Peak beside the now Michelin Key–awarded Golden Rock Inn, it offers Caribbean views, vibrant gardens, and a secluded pool. With 3 inviting bedrooms, airy living spaces, and nearby rainforest trails, Amaranth is your serene, story-filled island retreat. The space Primary Bedroom Suite The first of Amaranth’s two main suites features a king bed, spacious built-in closets, and elegant island-inspired décor. Large doors open directly onto a shared terrace overlooking the Caribbean Sea, lush gardens, and pool—perfect for quiet mornings and sunrise views. In addition, this suite includes a private porch that opens to the rainforest ghaut, offering a tranquil retreat to read a book or enjoy a morning cup of coffee and most importantly, allows for a wonderful cross breeze when the room is fully opened up. The en-suite bathroom includes a bathtub with shower, and the room is equipped with air conditioning and a new ceiling fan for added comfort. Second Bedroom Suite The second suite mirrors the first in comfort and style, with a king bed, ample built-in storage, and direct access to the same sea-facing terrace. Its en-suite bathroom also features a bathtub with shower, and the room enjoys its own air conditioning and ceiling fan. Both of these serene spaces are ideal for couples or friends seeking privacy while remaining connected by the shared terrace and view. Third Bedroom Located within the main house, the third bedroom offers a cozy, tranquil retreat with a queen bed and convenient access to a full bathroom. This room does not have air conditioning but stays cool and airy thanks to the home’s traditional West Indian design which takes advantage of the consistent trade winds. It’s an inviting space for children, family, or guests who enjoy being close to the main living areas. Living Room The heart of Amaranth is its spacious and airy living room, where beautifully refinished mahogany windows fill the space with soft natural light and invite in the island’s cooling cross-breezes. Comfortable seating and a blend of vintage and contemporary furnishings create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Guests will find a curated selection of books on the history of Nevis, tropical gardening, and Caribbean life, along with framed historical maps that connect the home to its storied past. The sofa converts into a pull-out bed to accommodate two additional guests. Please note, the sleeping capacity of the villa, including the sofa bed would be 8 people in total; however, we do not count that as the official capacity of the villa as most adults prefer to sleep in real beds and to have their privacy. Message us for any clarification. Dining Terrace Just beyond the living room, the large covered terrace serves as the perfect spot for open-air dining and lingering conversation. With views over the gardens, pool, and Caribbean Sea, it’s ideal for slow breakfasts, afternoon reading, and candlelit dinners under the stars. Kitchen Located in the center of the main house, the kitchen is practical and fully equipped for cooking and entertaining. It includes an electric stovetop and oven, a microwave, and a drinking water dispenser for guests’ convenience. Gardens & Pool Amaranth rests on nearly 2.5 acres of lush tropical gardens that surround the home in color, texture, and life. Established in the early 1960s, the property has matured into a true botanical retreat—its landscape shaped over generations by passionate gardeners and nature itself. Towering Caribbean Royal Palms, older than the house itself, rise gracefully above the gardens, while orchids cling to tree trunks and branches, adding delicate bursts of color amid the green. The gardens are now in a new chapter of renewal. Once left to grow wild, they’re being thoughtfully restored by the home’s new owners. Their vision honors the past while enriching the landscape with new plantings of palms, bromeliads, heliconias, and tropical foliage. The result is a garden that feels both timeless and alive, full of fragrance, movement, and subtle beauty. Buzzing bees drift between blossoms, quietly pollinating the flowers that make the garden thrive. A soft pathway meanders through the property, inviting morning walks with coffee beneath the palms or peaceful evening strolls as the light fades behind Nevis Peak. From nearly every corner of the grounds, there are dramatic views of the mountain’s lush slopes, its presence both grounding and awe-inspiring. At the heart of it all lies the new, vibrant blue pool gazebo—a joyful feature adorned with hand-carved Nevisian gingerbread trim. It’s a perfect place to rest in the shade or watch the sunlight dance across the pool’s surface. The surrounding area features comfortable lounge chairs, subtle pathway lighting, and pockets of privacy framed by tropical greenery. As day turns to night, the gardens come alive with sound: the steady hum of insects gives way to a nightly chorus of tree frogs and katydids, a soothing soundtrack to accompany the stars. Hummingbirds, butterflies, green vervet monkeys, caterpillars, and bats all play their part in this vibrant ecosystem that surrounds and enlivens Amaranth. These gardens aren’t just a backdrop—they’re a living, breathing part of the home’s story, connecting past and present through the timeless rhythm of nature on Nevis.
