Iconic early waterfront log cabin perched on the South shore of Big Glen Lake. Arrive Monday for 7 days at our family summer retreat. Pick a Monday to see open weeks. This cabin & the 1938 early modern cottage next door are shared, preserved and managed by 3rd & 4th generation family members. We look forward to greeting you New listing on this site. Interested in reviews? Visit "1936 Lakefront Log Cabin" on another popular site. Listed since 2000. Return to this, our preferred booking site. The space "Shack Tamarack" is an enduring, historic family retreat. It overlooks the turquoise water at the edge of the sun filtered woods. We look forward to sharing this memorable place with guests who will appreciate its history and character. Our rental week runs Monday/Monday. Available weeks will be posted in January after family members have secured their dates. The log cabin is known as "Shack Tamarack" after the Tamarack trees which were felled for logs, gathered and peeled in nearby Cedar. It was designed by eminent Chicago Architect Harry Weese, while in architecture school, for his parents & has been used by family every summer since. A special place at the end of a private drive, a short distance from the Narrows Bridge & Ideally located adjacent to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Relax, enjoy your vacation at our memorable log cabin which contains much of the original furniture made of logs. A local field stone fireplace anchors one end of the large living area which looks to the water. To one side, a dining area with long benches & pine table of two wide planks. Kitchen & Amenities: The KITCHEN is well suited for those who like to cook, contains modern amenities and easily partakes of the activity. The adjacent screen porch with swing is a quiet retreat for sunrise, sunset or mid-day break. Just outside is an ample deck with lounge chairs and picnic table. A hammock and grill are nearby. All areas overlook the crystal clear, spring fed lake. Log Cabin Retreat & Waterfront: Enjoy the peace of water lapping at the shore or the breeze passing the birches while reading in the hammock or rocking in a chair on the porch. A crackling fire will welcome you after an early morning or evening dip in the lake. Whatever your inclination, a variety of activities abound and you will have a memorable vacation at our family summer home. The cabin has a private dock and shares a fixed or floating raft with our adjacent cottage. The water is shallow at the shore with minimal beach. There is ample sandy shallow water swimming between the dock and raft. Kayaks, canoes & windsurfers can be easily accommodated, however we have no facilities for launching or mooring larger or motorized watercraft and the driveway cannot accommodate trailers. Public launch ramps are nearby. Kayaks & bikes may be rented in town. Guest access This classic summer log cabin fronting Glen Lake is entirely yours. It is an end one of 3 family cabins along the lake with unimproved grounds at either end. Each cottage has its own dock in front, and parking area at the back off the shared drive. A narrow path runs in front, lakeside, joining the cabins. It is traveled when family is present in all 3 cottages. That use is curtailed and guest privacy is respected during your visit. A path runs in back, woodside, joining the cabins, This is used more frequently when family is vacationing. Use of this path is also curtailed. Other things to note SLEEPING: Please refer to the bedroom descriptions. The cabin is comfortable with a maximum of 6 adults in 3 bedrooms. The 3 "bunk rooms" do not have walls which extend to the underside of the sloped roof and may lack the privacy desired by some. These are typically used by younger members of the visiting group. ADDITIONAL HOUSE RULES: Please be sure to read this information under HOUSE RULES. By booking our cottage you understand and accept and these provisions. Thank you.
