After a basic renovation and restoration phase of the building, a total of 6 apartments arose here. The building is a Görlitzer Baudenkmal. During extensive restoration work of the building, Fischmarktstraße 5, in 2016, as part of the renovation in the basement, one came across brick, dungeon-like rooms, equipped with heavy iron doors, offering space for just one person. Remains of a filmed window hatch left little light in the room. On the vaulted ceiling, a centrally firmly anchored iron ring caught the eye. The previous assumption was made to the certainty that you actually came across the remains of the oldest prison, which was located directly on the old city wall, called " Büttelei" or "Stockhaus". The prison was therefore located directly on the former defensive ring still within the city. The location can be understood without any doubt on the basis of the existing traditional city maps. In 1525, a major fire destroyed, the mostly wooden shingle-covered houses all the way into the neighboring Brüderstraße. The foundations of the old house were rebuilt in 1589. However, the former building was mentioned as the " brewery 3 oaks " in 1492, surrounded by a large orchard. In 1572, 6 wagons with "malefic" persons (prisoners), which were actually intended for galleys, were used for its maintenance. It is based on an extremely changeable story, which, after the information in 1535 in this house, a total of 22 people who came from the wealthy middle bourgeoisie. After complete destruction by another fire in 1817, the rebuilding of the house took place. The inscription over the Baroque portal made of sandstone with the coat of arms of the Alliance, burned down on 30 July 1817, built in 1818, also dates from this period. After being taken over by the city as owners in 1822, the official rooms of the "Royal Prussian Inquisitorate" were set up in it. For the time being, the living areas of Scharfrichters should also have been located in it. Other things to note Children under 2 years old will be charged a small extra fee of 6.00 EUR/per night.
