Thompson’s Shack
Thompson’s Shack
Description
Thompson’s Shack is located 75 minutes south of Hobart, on the Huon River. Just meters from the pristine white sandy shores of Surveyors Bay, this waterfront north facing shack has direct access to the beach. Recently refreshed throughout, the shack is a collection of old and new gathered to make a comfortable cosy getaway in a truly beautiful location. Well equipped for relaxation or adventure, with kayaks, firepots, and plenty of comfortable spots to enjoy the view, we’d love to have you stay The space Thompson’s shack was originally built as a farm shed, and used for packing apples and shearing sheep in its early life. In the 1940’s the Thompson family took over the building and the shack remained in their family for over 80 years. The shack has been recently refreshed throughout, but retains much of its character, including the lovely mantle piece and undulating subflooring. The kitchen is well equipped, the lounge room is warm and cosy, and there are plenty of spaces to enjoy this stunning location. We have 4 kayaks, 3 adult and 1 youth, with life jackets that must be worn at all times, wetsuits, hats, beach toys and shelters, beachside chiminea, and undercover BBQ area with a full size Weber family Q for you to enjoy. We have one shared bathroom, however there is a very handy second toilet outside, in a small shed attached to the carport. There is also a mooring available by request located just out the front of the shack in the bay. Supplies: our nearest IGA is in Dover, a 15 minute scenic windy drive away, and is very well stocked with all you need for your stay. Dover also has a great bottle shop, chemist, and postoffice. As you travel south from Hobart you will notice that there are plenty of roadside stalls to gather from, filled with seasonal produce and home-made goods, so keep your eyes peeled on the way through. You can also arrange for a delivery through Cole’s or Woolies online during your stay. Nightlife: Apart from an occasional Aurora or bioluminescence, Surveyors is a quiet community with a mixture of permanent residents and holiday homes. Toasting marshmallows in the chiminea and star gazing is a must, but please be respectful of our neighbors after 10pm, and enjoy the restful sound of the waves lapping on the beach. For meals out Dover has quite few options, including an RSL club, On Par bistro at the golf club, the Top Shop take-away and The Postoffice woodfired Pizza shop. More information is in our house manual folder. Guest access Bedrooms will be made available based on booking numbers Other things to note Our carport is quite low, not suitable for large SUV’s or 4x4’s, be cautious if you are not sure. Otherwise there is plenty of parking on the lawn to on the western side of the shack, or adjacent to the carport. Registration Details VA 27/2024
