Rainbow House – Castle & Mountain Views
Rainbow House – Castle & Mountain Views
Description
A double room, twin and a single room in a charming Andalusian-style house in the historic centre of Vélez-Blanco — a whitewashed mountain village at the gateway to Sierra María Natural Park. Enjoy the vertical patio garden and spectacular views from two terraces with sunrise, sunset, mountains and the castle! Just a 1-minute walk from the lively town square with cafés and bars, yet quiet, cool, and restful on a pedestrian alley. Your host happily recommends great hikes and local eateries. The space Rainbow House is tucked away on a quiet pedestrian alley in the historic center of Vélez-Blanco, yet less than a one-minute walk from the lively village plaza with cafés, tapas bars, the village theatre, small grocery shops, ATMs, and a fresh drinking-water fountain. Everything is within easy reach, while the house itself remains calm and traffic-free. Guests can enjoy two terraces with beautiful views — one facing La Muela mountain at sunrise, the other overlooking the castle at sunset. They are perfect for breakfast, reading, or an evening drink. The house is a traditional two-floor Andalusian townhouse with thick stone walls that keep the interior naturally cool and quiet during hot summer days, so air conditioning is not needed. A lush vertical patio garden open to the sky runs through the center of the house, creating a pleasant and refreshing microclimate. Inside, the atmosphere is simple and soothing, with a mix of traditional furniture and natural materials. Guests have access to a fully equipped kitchen for cooking and a dining room with a table for up to six. The dining room and the two main bedrooms follow a traditional Andalusian cave-style design, built partly into the rock with thick walls and softly illuminated by a skylight above. This keeps the rooms cool, quiet, and intimate while still receiving natural daylight. There is a separate toilet on the ground floor and a small but complete bathroom with shower upstairs. One of the double bedrooms has access to a small meditation or reading room, which opens directly onto the upper terrace with a hammock, reached by a narrow and charming staircase. A hallway space allows guests to safely store a bicycle indoors. Just outside the village you will find traditional terraced farmland and old farmhouses, as well as a small regenerative garden maintained by the host using organic practices. A historic wood-fired bakery nearby is famous for its sourdough pan rústico and fresh croissants. Guest access Guests are welcomed by the host and receive a set of keys, which are returned to a PIN keybox upon departure. As the house is traditional and somewhat rustic, the host briefly shows guests around so they can feel comfortable and at home. Guests have access to the shared kitchen, dining room, living areas, terraces, and patio garden, as well as the bathroom and toilet described in the listing. The host is also happy to recommend local highlights, the Vélez-Blanco circular walk, and beautiful hiking routes in the surrounding mountains. Other things to note The house is traditional in its layout. The interior staircases are narrow and somewhat steep, which may not be suitable for guests with mobility difficulties. The property is not wheelchair accessible. The neighborhood is quiet and pedestrian-friendly, with many beautiful walking routes in every direction. Vélez-Blanco is also an excellent gateway to the Sierra María–Los Vélez Natural Park, a protected area known for its mountains, forests, and hiking trails. In the village you will also find a tourist office, a local history museum, and a small water museum, as well as cafés and shops. The host is happy to share a locally printed hiking map and help guests discover some of the best walking routes around the village — including where trails begin and end, how long they take, and what to bring along. Guests who would like extra guidance to explore the mountains can also receive help with practical arrangements. The host is also a certified permaculture gardener and is glad to explain some of the ecological and sustainability features of the house and garden for those who are interested.
