Hill view cottage Murrurundi
Hill view cottage Murrurundi
Description
Take a break and unwind at this peaceful cottage with uninterrupted views of the hills. Positioned in a superb spot in front of the Pages River, walk to town and on half an acre, Hillview is perfect for a relaxing getaway, or to take in the many art, culinary and leisure activities of Murrurundi. The space Relax and enjoy the serene Aussie bush and the wonderful artistic and historic town of Murrurundi from lovely Hillview Cottage. There’s a fabulous historic pub in Murrurundi called The Royal. It has an original Cobb and Co coach and great outdoor seating amongst willow trees. Across the road from it, is one of the oldest wood swing bridges in Australia. If you walk over it and follow the river you’ll come to my cottage, Hillview. Positioned on half an acre with uninterrupted views of the mountains, there is no better spot to enjoy Murrurundi and the countryside. The interior is an eclectic mix of antique, modern, retro and things I've bought in my life and travels like the old hutch, the rare 1950’s dining set, paintings here and there that caught my eye, an antique wardrobe from a haberdashery store in Maitland, and then mod cons like the new TV, air fryer, comfortable lounge etc Nothing is labelled and the drawers and cupboards aren’t pristinely organised, but they are tidy and again with some lovely pieces and practical pieces. There’s always some food in the cupboard which you’re welcome to, local jams and honey, flour, spices, loads of tea… and you’ll sleep on a queen bed with organic cotton sheets. In winter stay cozy with electric blankets. Some things still need doing, the cottage is a work in motion and that’s why it’s priced so well. These are minor things like the bathroom door frame that hasn't been painted, the window frame in the spare bedroom which needs painting. The kitchen is modern with a new dishwasher and stove and oven plus air fryer. The kitchen table is a set for four people. Lounge room is small but comfortable. The tv is also new but as we have no wifi you will have to dongle on to watch Netflix etc. Relax on the lounge which looks out on the lovely green scenery. The new outdoor indoor dining area is a joy. Fling open the barn doors and enjoy the six seater table with one of the best views in Murrurundi. Uninterrupted greenery, hills and country-side. The floor in this room right now is cement with a hardy rug on it, eventually it will be large flagstones, but right now that’s what’s there. If you’re the kid or third adult sleeping in the spare room with the king single bed, open up the glass doors and enjoy the vista from your bed. One of my friends visited from Sydney (after threatening for twenty years to do so) and slept for ten hours in that room. Thanks to a well chosen meditation? No. Thanks to bird song and the rustle of leaves in the trees and the most beautiful fresh air. Relax on the balcony with a book or a glass of vino and enjoy the peace, possibly broken by the gorgeous pet goats which may wander down next door. They stay on their side of the fence, and they aren't noisy. The spare bedroom is small. It has a king single bed and a pull out velvet chair bed that is honestly of no sleeping use to anyone over ten years. My daughter is five and loves it. It slopes down at one end so if you’re too big urgh, bad night sleep. If you’re a tot, fine. Bathroom is quaint, the bath is claw foot style and is wonderful for soaking in. There’s a heated towel rack for winter. I was over sold the split system unit and as such it heats and cools the whole cottage in about three minutes… The bedroom has a queen bed which is comfortable and in the morning you’ll wake to a view of the country side and trees. There’s no washing machine but Jenny is happy to do your laundry at $20 a load in her house and return it. If you're looking for perfect with everything labelled and every whim thought of, this cottage isn't for you. There are wonderful dedicated homes in Murrurundi, set up Hamptons style with everything in its correct spot. We use Hillview so while there are dedicated guest areas for clothes, toiletries etc, you will also find a few of our things. There is one thing Hillview has which is beyond any organising of drawers and linens, POSITION. Yes, I'm biased, but you are in the dress circle of Murrurundi here. In the middle of town, between the highway and train line so you aren't beset with noise and can enjoy the superb tranquility surrounding you. I love it here and hope you will too.
