The Upcycled Cottage

This is a space handmade from as much re-used and re-loved materials as possible in a way that brings comfort, creativity and relaxation. It showcases just what can be made from bits and pieces around us. Discover an interior wall made from old doors, a kitchen counter held up on Singers, shelves from old drawers from thrown out dressers, and more. Spend the day reading in the rocking chair, playing cards by the fire, sitting in the garden or taking a 5min stroll to the local village. The space This is your own self-contained studio, with cooking facilities (two ring hob, pots pans, utensils), kettle, toaster and fridge. Its heated with a stove, with some wood and turf provided. It has its own toilet and shower (heated by an emersion) and a comfy bed for a restful sleep. Outside you have a private gated yard and garden area. The history of the place as a nail and cement store built in the 1940's to a modern art gallery by the 1990's can still be felt through it's rustic industrial chic finish; 100 year old wooden floor, 1880's cement bag weighing scales, 1968 handmade stools, bed frame angle iron table supports.. If it is peace, quiet and relaxation you are looking for, or socialising around traditional music in the local pubs, or strolling across the beautiful hills or mountains of Donegal, its all right here. 3 minute walk to the centre of Ardara heritage village; full of great cosy pubs, local music, and hearty food, hosting 14 festivals a year. 10minute drive to waterfalls, large sandy beaches and hill walking all over. 25 minute drive to the largest cliffs in Ireland; Slieve League. *Please note that THERE IS NO WIFI IN THE COTTAGE. This was a conscious decision so that we can have a break from the every day online connection. If you need/want Internet connection your mobile data will work fine in the cottage and there are places in town who offer WiFi. Guest access Private Yard and Garden. we have made a conscious decision not to cut the grass this year. We only cut the grass 3/4 times this season as we encourage the growth of wild flowers and wildlife. this is not to everyone's taste but its one for nature. also we do not use chemical weedkiller so there are "weeds" in the gravel area. we use natural methods to control the weeds and again this is not to everyone's taste so we are sorry. Other things to note You can get a load of laundry washed and dried next door for €5 per load
