Strongyli is a traditional 16th-century village built by Cretan settlers, surrounded by green hills and steeped in history. It was home to Gerasimos Marcora, whose ancestral mansion still preserves personal belongings and manuscripts. The property is in a peaceful village setting, ideal for relaxation, but still close to beaches, tavernas, and hiking trails. Our village has everything you need within walking distance. Just 100 meters from the mansion, a cozy café-bar serves fresh coffee, smoothies, pizza, and snacks — the perfect stop for a relaxed morning or evening drink. A mini market is only 200 meters away for your daily essentials, and at 600 meters you’ll find the charming local tavern Palaiomagazo, known for its authentic Corfiot dishes. For nature lovers, marked walking trails start just above the house, leading to two small chapels with breathtaking views where the mountains meet the sea. The nearest sandy beach is just 1.5 km away, ideal for a quick swim or a full day by the water. If you visit in winter (November–March), you can witness and even join the traditional olive harvest, while in September you might experience the grape harvest and wine-making — including the age-old custom of grape pressing. Within a short drive, you’ll find lively beach bars, restaurants, and clubs along the coast, as well as fantastic sandy stretches around 8 km away. The seaside village of Moraitika, just 6 km from the property, offers supermarkets, butcher shops (perfect for a BBQ in our garden), local stores, and a health center. Another health center is located in Lefkimi, about 15 minutes away. Public buses run three times a day with the nearest stop just a 5-minute walk from the house. Still, we recommend renting a car or motorbike so you can explore the island at your own pace. Nearby, in the “Kanavia” area, you can find the old village well — a hub for cultural events — and an ancient olive tree estimated to be 2,500 years old. Hello, I’m Takis — proud fourth-generation descendant of Gerasimos Marcora, the poet who once called this house his home. My family has cared for the mansion for centuries, and we’ve lovingly restored it so guests can enjoy its charm while still having every modern comfort. Hospitality is in our heart: we live nearby and are always available to help with anything you might need, from local tips to special arrangements. Whether you come for family gatherings, romantic escapes, or a peaceful retreat, our goal is simple — to make you feel at home while surrounded by history, beauty, and Corfiot warmth.
