Description
Is staying in a Lighthouse Cottage on your bucket list? Are you looking for a family-friendly holiday with the kids and the dog? Or a relaxing break for two, away from the hustle and bustle? The Lighthouse Keeper’s cottage is a light and cosy family home, set on a headland with sea on three sides – you can see Orkney from the garden, and a ruined castle out of the kitchen window! Inside you'll find pictures by local artists and books about lighthouses and the area, for a unique stay. The space WHAT YOU’LL FIND HERE The Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage was home to the Principal Lighthouse Keeper and his family, so it is a comfortable family home for up to six people, sleeping in three bedrooms. Dogs are welcome too. You'll have the whole cottage to yourself, and we also live on site (along with our cat and two dogs) so if you have any questions, we can help you straight away. INSIDE THE COTTAGE - THE WIFI runs between 7Mb to 20Mb – so it’s fine for Zoom calls or streaming movies to our Smart TV. (We are very rural, so wifi is not guaranteed but so far it’s always been fine). - THE FAMILY / DINING ROOM has a big table perfect for eating together, playing board games, or sorting through photos on your laptop. - THE LIVING ROOM has comfy seating for everyone, a Smart TV, and a selection of family-favourite DVDs. - OUR WELL-EQUIPPED KITCHEN is perfect for preparing family meals, and has a washer and dryer as well as a dishwasher. - THE BATHROOM has a large shower walk-in shower, and of course a toilet and sink. - OUR THREE BEDROOMS each sleep two people, and we can provide a travel cot if you need one. OUTSIDE – AS WELL AS OUR CLIFFTOP VIEWS OF THE SEA ON THREE SIDES…. There is off-road parking outside the cottage for two cars. We have a paved patio area, where you can sit in good weather. Noss Head is a working lighthouse, but we do not have the keys so we cannot show you round. And remember, everyone loves a lighthouse! In good weather, walkers may come up to the compound. And contractors sometimes come up to do maintenance work. A NOTE ABOUT OUR PHOTOS We often add new touches to the cottage, like new pictures (by local artists), or new lamps, or an upgrade to our furnishings. Some of our photos are from a year or so ago, so you may spot differences between them. If you have any questions, just drop me a note. Guest access INCLUSION AND SUSTAINABILITY The cottage is all on one level, with shallow entrance steps, so we are often suitable for people who are unsteady on their feet. Unfortunately, we are not suitable for wheelchairs. We hold the Scottish LGBTQ+ Rainbow Mark, and have a Gold award for Green Tourism. CHILDREN AND DOGS ARE WELCOME TOO Children and well-behaved dogs are welcome, but please supervise your children and keep dogs on a lead when they are outside for their own safety, and the safety of our neighbour’s livestock. Note that there is a low sea wall, cliffs, and open water nearby. GETTING HERE You'll probably need to come by car because we are about 4 miles from Wick where there are supermarkets, restaurants and shops. Most guests drive their own car or travel to Inverness and hire one. Other things to note Noss Head is a working lighthouse, but we do not have the keys so we cannot show you round. Contractors sometimes come up to do maintenance work. And remember, everyone loves a lighthouse! In good weather, walkers may come up to the compound. We always ask them to keep their dogs on leads.
