The Little Red Caboose @ Hideaway on the Hocking

The Little Red Caboose is an icon of many childhood stories and of simpler times gone by. This 1948 train has been set back on tracks atop an old railroad line. The largest of Hideaway's five trains at 31 feet, it sits at the place of honor at the end of the line. Between the thoughtfully curated industrial design and clever use of space, you might quickly forget you are in a train ... if it were not for the stunning window-lined cupola highlighting the kitchen and dining area. All aboard! The space The Little Red Caboose, the only train at the Hideaway resort with the original metal water tank anchoring the ceiling in the main bedroom, is inspired by this industrial artifact. From the large metal chandelier hanging in the cupola over the kitchenette and dining area, to the oxidized tile accenting the toddler reading nook/sleeping area, to the steampunk lighting, this caboose is truly heavy metal. Comfy seating for four in the living space compliments the steel-inspired kitchenette with microwave, two-burner cooktop and sink. With a propane grill just off the porch, this tiny house provides all you need for a freshly prepared meal. A custom wood dining table set on steel legs slides out to reveal additional seating, creating enough room for a family meal or space to play one of the classic board games. A super-comfy Olympic Queen mattress in the sleeping area and fold-out twin chair and toddler nook in the living space, give each overnight passenger their own sleeping space. Geometric tile line the shower walls and ceiling and a glass shower door give this full bathroom an open feel. Outside, the full length covered porch provides another 360 square feet of outdoor living and dining space. Just off the porch your private green space is where you will find your fire-pit with seating. Oh…and did we mention a river view and direct access to the Riverwalk? The Little Red Caboose and the Little Brown Caboose are our only dog-friendly cabooses at this time. You are welcome to bring along your extended, furry family to this unit. Be sure to check Hideaway's Pet Policy in the Rental Conditions to confirm that your dog meets all requirements before you add your dog onto your booking. If you opt to bring a dog, there will be an additional $75 fee (plus tax) which you will select when making your reservation. Guest access The Little Red Caboose is located within the gated Hideaway on the Hocking resort property. You will receive an access code for the resort gate and your rental property 7 days before your stay. Your code is only active for the duration of your stay. It will activate at your check-in time (4:00pm) and it will deactivate at your check-out time (11:00am). This code will be used to enter the front gate of the property and your personal rental. To access, you will hit the YALE button on the keypad, type in your access code and then hit the Checkmark button. Wait until you hear door unlock completely before trying to open. Other things to note Located within the Hideaway on the Hocking resort, you can spend your days exploring miles of private trails, kayaking the Hocking River, picking fresh corn and tomatoes from our flower-lined garden or escaping to one of our panoramic Hideouts. After a full day, you can enjoy dinner on your spacious porch overlooking the fields below and river beyond before you cap off the evening around your private firepit under a wide-open starry sky.
