Easy access by bus: Right by the water - fish from the kitchen terrace! Arctic nature at your doorstep. 5 mins from Luleå by car, 15 min by bus. Perfect chill-out spot with Luleå just a bike ride away. Sleep in comfy beds and have a sauna by the lake. Easy to access by car, free parking. 2 km to supermarket. Trails for running and skiing right by house. Ski/skate/bike rental available. See the nothern lights over the frozen lake - the location and view is stunnning. Wifi 500/500. Welcome! The space The cabin is 1 meter from the water and is a compact living home (18 m² + terrace, see floor plan in pictures section). Sauna included, also right by the water. One bedroom with two comfy beds, one kitchen with a round café style table and two chairs, bathroom with WC and shower + wooden deck. Washing machine available in house on lot. House is heated by radiators (yes! it is warm in winter :) KITCHEN is equipped with: • Stove and oven, pots, pans. • Fridge with freezer compartment. • Plates, silverware, glasses, mugs, kitchen knives etc. • Water heater and coffee machine with filters. As courtesy, I provide basic cooking stuff: • Salt, pepper and oil • Some tea bags and coffee + filters (to get you through that first morning :) Things you won't find that you may be used to: no household paper (save the planet, there is a cloth!), no microwave oven, no TV, no salad rinser, no waste bin in bathroom, no shower gel and shampoo (bring your own :) BBQ House has a simple bbq for use in warm season. Charcoal and lighter fluid not provided, just bring some if yo want to use bbq! TOWELS AND BED LINEN Sheets, quilt and 2 pillows/bed included. Towels also included, 1 for hands, 1 for shower/person. 1 towel for dishes in the kitchen. We do not use fabric softener when washing our towels (to save the planet :) For some guests this is a big deal, for us not at all :) We do not provide additional towels (not a hotel :) SAUNA The sauna is right down by the water, it is shared, no booking lists, no additional cost for using sauna. Just go down and turn it on and use it. For those very rare occasions when someone else is using it: just wait 30 mins or so until the other guests are done and then use it! Sweden is a liberal country and nudity and sauna is accepted. Going in the sauna with or without clothes and throwing yourself in the lake afterwards is a personal choice. Do as you please. We've seen naked people before, most of us were even born naked! :) (if you are offended by watching someone's happy butt cheeks coming out of a steaming sauna while making their way to the water, the pro tip is to look the other way! :) LOCATION Close to the house is a large recreation area for trail running in summer and X-country skiing in winter... or just ski/walk right out on the frozen lake. The house is not in the "wilderness", Luleå 5 mins away by car, just mentioning since some guests expect total seclusion. Easy to access by car both in summer and winter. Parking 15 meters from house. The house works just as well in summer as in winter. Heating, hot water, wonderful view - all very nice and comfortable! NORTHERN LIGHTS Luleå is a great place to watch Northern lights. The season for aurora is from September to March. When the lights dance across the sky you can just walk out on the frozen lake in front of the house and look north. For early season you can just use the bridge to get to the other side (a small beach). The house is built facing south, getting full sun daytime. But you have to go out to watch the northern lights and look north, "behind" the house. It's magic!! :) As soon as you are booked you will get a link to a PDF (also printed in house) where you will find all info about how to download app and check for aurora. Guest access ACCESS BY BUS & CAR You do not need a car to access this Airbnb. If you arrive to Luleå airport the bus to town (4 or 104) will take about 20 minutes. In town you change bus to bus 223, this ride takes 15 mins. While in town you can shop for groceries right by the bus station, so you don't have to stop on the way. The buses run from morning (6 am) to evening (these are standard hours, may vary for week-ends, midsummer, x-mas etc). There is also a supermarket 2 km from house open 8 am to 10 pm, and a pizzeria if you don't feel like cooking. If you rent a car at the airport it will take you 20 mins to reach the house. TO HOUSE BY CAR Getting to the house by car or bus is very easy. Once you are booked you will receive very detailed information in a PDF on how to get around on foot, bike, bus and car + number to serious taxi operators. Guest info PDF also features maps and local information on Luleå, things to do, restaurant guide and much more. In your booking confirmation message you will also find links and recommendations to tour operators if you want to do dog sledding, skiing etc. THINGS TO DO FROM HOUSE - RENT SKIS/SKATES/BIKES/KAYAKS In spring/summer/fall you can enjoy fishing right from the garden (no fishing license needed), hiking, kayaking and just the luxury of having nature right around the corner but still be able to hop on a bus or bike to town and see for yourself if the local bartenders make a good martini ;) Once booked you will get an info message with all activities we offer from the house and prices for rentals ski/skate/bikes/kayaks. Bike rental only available when roads are free from snow RESTAURANTS & BARS Since many international companies have established in Luleå there is today a good selection of restaurants, pubs, coffee-shops and cocktail bars. The local pub The Bishops Arms has 34 beers on tap and micro brewery. In booking message you will get links to restaurant guide and much more. NATURE & FISHING You can fish for pike and perch right from the garden, or rent a kayak and go off on you own adventure. Would you like to do day trip to fish for salmon and trout? Within a 150 km radius you can reach some of Northern Europe's best rivers! For a guided fishing trip you can ask me, if you want to go on your own contact Luleå Office of Toursim. SPRING Spring starts in March, but there will still be snow on the ground and the lake will be frozen. This is a very nice time of the year to be outside at nice temperatures, ski, hike and catch the first warming rays of the sun! The ice melts on the lake in late April and in May the forest starts to turn green again :) SUMMER Summer starts in June. In summer Luleå really comes to life, many restaurants and pubs offer outdoor service and people from all over Scandinavia (and the world) come to get some long-longed-for sunshine. Luleå also has a beautiful archipelago with islands scattered in the Luleå river delta. In summer small tour boats operate the routes to the islands, some are inhabited with restaurants and beaches, while others are protected natural reserves with a rich bird life. Take the boat in the morning come back in the afternoon! You can swim in the lake from the garden (water cold? “cheat” and have a sauna before bathing!) - or go explore beaches all around the delta of the Luleå river. Fishing, kayaking and never-ending days! :) Light sensitive when you sleep? Bring a face mask! AUTUMN Autumn starts in September, the rays of the sun start to come in low and with it's golden light it turns everything into magic. This time of the year is wonderful. The colors of the trees change, fishing is great, still warm enough to kayak on the lake and hike in the foerst. On a warm day you feel so blessed, because you know that winter is right around the corner :) WINTER In winter you have plenty fo things to do! Local companies offer dog sledding, snow mobile tours etc. You can also do many activities right from the house. I offer guided tours on cross country skis (in forest and on ice) - or rent skis from me and go explore the area on your own. Only 300 m from house you will also find prepared competition ski tracks (Ormberget). For alpine skiing Luleå offers shorter slopes. If you want to try alpine skiing this is a great opportunity to learn, but if you are expecting long slopes you had better go to the alps. Sweden is flat and our "mountains" are more like hills by international standards. WINTER LIFE During winter the town of Luleå prepares a 4 km "ice road" in town. Rent skates and you can even reach some of the closest islands! Down on the ice the town of Luleå put out grill spots with free fire wood. Bring a hot dog and cook your own lunch on the ice! In winter days are short. Sun goes up at 08:30 am and down at 2:00 pm. Temperatures range from -5 C° to -25 C°. Ice track opens when ice conditions allow. In booking message you will get links to see if it is open or you can check with Luleå Tourist Info. SNOW, CARS, GETTING AROUND When it snows I have a neighbor with a tractor that clears everything. So don't worry about getting snowed in or stuck. I drive a regular 2 WD car and it works fine. If you rent a car make sure to book with studded tires. PETS I do allow pets, and I don’t charge anything extra for hosting pets. I have 2 dogs myself; I love animals. When bringing pets, you are required to keep after the state of the house a bit more carefully. No pets on furniture, and you are responsible for vacuuming yourself before checkout to make sure no hairs are left behind. If you bring a dog, please bring a dog bed or a dog blanket, this way they have a familiar and natural place to sleep. I really want this to work so please handle this correctly, so I don't have to ban pets. Thanks! :) Other things to note THE CABIN The cabin is a compact living home but has all you need. Look at the floor plan in the picture gallery for details. If you travel with a lot of luggage the house will feel small. MANDATORY RECYCLING We are an environmental friendly place. When staying here you are required to sort your trash. We have organized a complete set of recycling bins with metal, glass plastic, etc. We know you are on vacation - we happen to live on the same planet still! ;) If you don't want to sort your trash just book another place! :) easy! CHECK-OUT ROUTINE / SIMPLE CLEANING Before checking out guests are required to do simple tidying up: do dishes, wipe stovetop, counter and inside fridge, replace burnt out candles + take recycling out. We do charge a cleaning fee, 100 kr, this does not really cover the time it takes us to wash, dry fold, make beds, vacuum and clean bathroom. We help each other out and keep the cleaning fee at a reasonable level, good for all! EASY SELF CHECK IN For your convenience the house is set for easy self check-in. Check in time is flexible from 3 pm to any time you want, but after 10 pm I may not be able to assist you if you have any questions. I have to rest sometimes and I usually do it at night :) NO EARLY CHECK IN / LATE CHECK OUT We do not offer early check in or late check outs. We are a popular place and need the time for cleaning, we never know when the current guests check out. If your house is ready before check in time you will be notified in the app. ARRIVING EARLY / LEAVING LATE? If you wish to arrive early of leave late because of late flight/train: Book an extra night. And please don't ask for early check-in or late check out, we are fully booked almost all the time and there are other guests in the house, so it's just not possible :) NO BAG DROP OFF We don't do bag drop off. Luggage storage is not available in Luleå. If you need to store your luggage during the day you can try asking at one of the hotels if they can help you for a fee. LOCATION The house is located in a residential area in a super nice location. There is a road leading to town, just mentioning since some guests have been expecting total seclusion and living in wilderness, this is 5 mins by car from town: nature + "city" life. We really like the road, without it we couldn't get anywhere ;) SUMMER AND TRAFFIC Summer is short up here and during weekends there may be local guys in V8 cars passing by playing their favorite music for the whole town to hear, same thing goes for kids on scooters, they may pass by on hours when the rest of us are sleeping. For us this is part of summer and being young and crazy. We have all done it. It does not happen a lot, but if you can't stand the idea, better book something totally in the forest. BOOKING FOR OTHER PERSON If you are booking on behalf of someone else: At least one of the guests must be included in the booking and have a valid Airbnb account. I must be able to communicate directly via the Airbnb app with at least one guest staying in the house - just following Airbnb policy! If you book and have not included one of the guests staying in the house I will give you a chance to fix it and if you don't I will cancel the booking. Guests not understanding how to use the app are the ones most probable not to follow rules and give low reviews because they just don't understand. So we would just rather not have them! :) LARGE VEHICLES If you arrive in a camper van, a large truck or bring a trailer, contact me and I will give you info on where to park so you don't block other guests. WASHING MACHINE This house does not have its' own washing machine, but you are welcome to do laundry in our house or any other vacant house with machine that we will direct you to. If you plan to arrive late, only stay one night and laundry is crucial for your stay, see if any of our other houses are vacant (it usually all works out, just writing this for those rare occasions when guests arrive after bed time and want to do laundry and leave early next day). BEACH On the opposite side of the lake is a small public beach. During summer days there may be children playing and people bathing. TREE BY TERRACE Close to the terrace is a tree. In summer it provides nice shade from the sun and privacy from people on the beach. The roots also keep the house in place so it does not sink into the water. OTHER HOUSES The house is on a lot with two other houses, all houses face the lake and you have good privacy. You may see other guests going to the sauna or going to the water to fish. Most of my guests are couples finding a retreat to relax. In all the 900+ bookings I have had I have had no complaints. It all works very smoothly. See drone picture in picture gallery for overview. SAUNA The sauna is an electric sauna you would expect in the Swedish countryside. It is shared, but couples/groups use it one at a time (there is room for 3). BED LINEN AND TOWELS Bed linen and towels are included in the price. Towels are washed with soap but without fabric softener to save the planet. If not requested in advance, the bed will be made up as a double. Please don't complain if you wanted single beds but didn't request them. Please DO NOT WIPE OFF MAKE UP with the towels, not even with ”water soluble” make up, it leaves permanent stains. If you use make up, remember to bring your own make up remover pads. Thanks! :) PETS I don't charge any fees for hosting pets, when bringing pets you are responsible for vacuuming yourself before checkout to make sure no hairs are left behind, wipe windows and floor for snout-marks (that's the "pet charge" :) BOOKING FOR AN EMPLOYEE If you are a company booking for your employees: If your employee is a man who thinks this is a hotel where you just leave everything dirty because you paid for it and does not care for house rules: Please book another place. If your non-domesticated employee leaves the house in a sad state I will perform ancient Swedish voodoo on both of you resulting in your eye lashes and genitalia falling off. I need to be able to communicate directly with employee in app, employee must be added in booking. I will not e-mail, message or send any info outside of app. If you are somebody's boss that's fine, but you're not my boss and I will not be your secretary :) No room for overhead. Book a hotel, pay more, harass and boss around someone else :) Peace! TO SUM IT UP My wife and I have been running this Airbnb since 2013. We have an average of 4,9 out of 5,0 in customer satisfaction. We live here in one of the houses so we are neighbors! As you can read from the reviews we really try our best to make our guests feel genuinely welcome. If you are a person who tries your best in finding errors in others and love the idea of going on vacation and have emotional tantrums, if you have lived your life in bitterness and have always dreamt of being a traveling hotel critic and get aroused by the thought of demolishing someone else’s hard work, if you are crazy rich and expect us to kiss your ass while you treat us like servants and tell us the house is not as classy as the hotels in Dubai - or get personally offended because there is no… salad rinser, or anything else you are used to from home… we would just rather have you go somewhere else! :) If you on the other hand think that this text was actually quite funny, congratulations, you passed the test - welcome!! (You are _always_ welcome to give us feedback and make requests - we make errors/forget things too! - that’s fine, this is how guests have helped us make this such a nice place.
