The space Since opening in August 2025, the Charleston House has branded itself as a place full of charm and authentic hospitality, featuring luxury mattresses from Stearns and Foster, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel Resort Collection, and linens from Comphy, a linen brand in 95% of all Forbes five-star properties. The Charleston House, as it is called today, was a house constructed by H. H. Fuller at 956 Sixth Street. The house was a family home. Not much is known about the house and its evolution between 1890 and 1910. Significant improvements included a kitchen and dining room shortly after 1910. During the English Edwardian period, electric lighting was finally installed, as well as indoor plumbing (no out-house). To make jobs easier, a dumb waiter was installed later in this period. The Fullers had a butler and a cook throughout their history. They also had live-in housekeepers who helped with the day-to-day functions of the house. According to the Coles County Historical Society, “the house was a symbol of elegance and southern hospitality.” A grand staircase, 2 sets of pocket doors, coffered ceilings, and wainscoting in the dining room with elegant textured wallpaper with a peacock motif that gives inspiration behind the creation of the Charleston House.
