Japanese Pole House Studio near Gwithian & St Ives
Japanese Pole House Studio near Gwithian & St Ives
Description
This Studio is the ground floor annex of one of Cornwall's most extraordinary buildings: a Japanese Pole House designed by architect Barrie Briscoe and once owned by Kate Winslet. A love letter to natural wood, calm and simplicity with a serene Japanese style that makes this the perfect bolthole for two. Less than 10 minutes from Gwithian and Godrevy beaches, with St Ives just down the road and great local food and drink on the doorstep. The space Reached via its own private entrance below the main house, the studio is an open plan bedroom and living space (approx 5.3 x 4.5m) with a separate bathroom and kitchenette. There's a floorplan in our photos. ★★★★★ If you get the chance to stay here, book it immediately. The property itself is incredible - the architecture is so unique, and learning about the history behind the building made staying here feel like a truly special experience rather than just a place to sleep. Note: the studio is on the ground floor (below the balcony on the exterior main house photos). The front door is next to the car port for reference. Walk through the famous Douglas fir poles to the front door. A hallway with coat and clothing storage leads into the kitchenette with twin hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, and under counter fridge. Step through into the studio itself: with a king-size bed, comfortable lounge seating, a TV and peaceful views out to the tropical garden. The natural wood wraps around you on every side. There are characterful low beams and low ceiling height in places, so taller guests should be comfortable ducking as part of the experience. The bathroom has a deep Japanese soaking bath with overhead shower, designed so you can sit back and submerge to your shoulders. Some evenings just call for that. Due to high sides on the bath, you need to step onto a wooden step to get in, similar to getting into a wooden hot tub, and the ceiling height is lower in this area. Outside, the tropical garden is yours to enjoy: there's a wooden table perfect for alfresco dining or lingering over morning coffee, plus additional seating areas. There's parking for one car on the driveway outside. What’s nearby ——————- Angarrack sits quietly between the surf beaches of St Ives Bay and the creative buzz of St Ives itself, close enough to everything, far enough from the crowds. Gwithian and Godrevy are less than a 10 minute drive, with 3 miles of sand and some of the best surf in Cornwall. St Ives and Penzance are easily within reach too. For food and drink worth leaving the sofa for: Gilbert's Beach Bar sits right on the water's edge at Hayle harbour with panoramic estuary views and is every bit as good as it looks; Lula's fuses Cornish seafood with New Orleans flair, think lobster rolls, double stacked burgers, buttermilk pancakes and shack sundaes; and the Cove Café perches above the golden sands of Hayle Beach serving outstanding food with the kind of warm, personal hospitality that keeps people coming back. For everyday essentials, there's an M&S, Boots, a bakery and the St Ives Brewery Taproom just 10 minutes on foot or 2 minutes by car. A big ASDA supermarket and local shops are a 5 minute drive away in nearby Hayle too. Our calendar is always up to date ———————————————- From July till end August we run 7 night minimum stays with changeover day on Saturday. At other times min 3 nights. Add our listing to your wishlist by clicking the ❤️ in the upper-right corner. Other things to note The studio is on the ground floor below the main house you see in the photos with the balcony. It is a open plan living/bedroom space. The ceiling height is low in places and there are low beams, so taller guests will need to duck regularly. There’s a step up into the high sided Japanese bath/shower. The shower height is also low, so worth bearing in mind.
