Outdoor smoking permitted 10+ ft from the building You're at the base of Mt. Tabor - a dormant volcano with hiking trails, reservoirs, and some of the best sunset views of downtown Portland. It's one of those neighborhoods where locals come for the food and stay for the quiet, tree-lined streets. Coquine is the standout - a James Beard Award-nominated restaurant right in the neighborhood, known for seasonal French-American cooking that consistently lands on Portland's best-of lists. During the day, their market next door does incredible pastries, coffee, and sandwiches (grab one before a hike up Tabor). Tabor Tavern is our go-to for a casual burger, local beers, and pub food done really well. Bellwether Bar is a cozy cocktail spot in a historic building with a garden patio - great food too, not just drinks. For something different, QuarterWorld is a retro arcade bar on nearby Hawthorne with 90+ pinball machines and classic games, two cocktail bars, and a musical Tesla coil (yes, really). It's a uniquely Portland night out. A few of our favorites nearby: 🌋 Mt. Tabor Park - hike a dormant volcano with panoramic city views 🍽️ Coquine - James Beard-nominated, one of Portland's best restaurants 🍔 Tabor Tavern - neighborhood pub with great burgers and local brews 🍸 Bellwether Bar - craft cocktails, bistro food, and a garden patio 🕹️ QuarterWorld - retro arcade bar with pinball, cocktails, and a Tesla coil The neighborhood is residential and quiet but connected — Hawthorne's restaurants and shops are a short walk or bike ride away, buses run to downtown, and you're central to SE Portland's best districts. It's the kind of spot where you feel like a local, not a tourist. 🚶 Walking — Rose City Park is a charming residential neighborhood with local restaurants and shops along nearby Sandy Boulevard and Fremont Street. 🚌 Bus — TriMet Route 12 (Sandy Blvd) and Route 19 (Glisan) provide frequent service, with direct connections to downtown (~20 min). 🚲 Biking — BIKETOWN bike-share stations in the area. Portland's bike lane network makes cycling easy and safe. 🚗 Driving — Free street parking is widely available. Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) typically arrives in under 5 minutes. ✈️ Airport — PDX is about 11 minutes by car. The MAX Blue/Red Line at the nearby Gateway Transit Center offers a direct rail connection to the airport.
