Other things to note The Glacier Breeze cabin is located approximately 50 miles northeast of the Anchorage Airport, taking about an hours scenic drive to arrive. The cabin is located just off the paved and maintained all year round Knik River Road. Parking is provided adjacent to the cabin. Self-check in is available, though hosts do reside on the five acre property and are typically available to assist should you need anything. Fire extinguisher, fire blanket, first aid kit and battery powered lanterns are located under the kitchen sink. The cabin area is surrounded by several hundred thousands of acres of pure Alaskan wilderness. Please understand that you may encounter a wide range of wildlife ranging from small insects to large moose. Our most frequent visitors are moose, rabbits, squirrels, porcupines and a wide variety of birds. There are both black and brown bears in the area, but they tend to usually stay away from inhabited areas. Even less apt to encounter, though they are also in the area are wolves, lynx and wolverines and other wildlife. We enjoy sharing the area with all critters and respect their right to be here just as much as ours. Therefore, we do not use any chemical pesticides, herbicides or traps. Luckily, this area is probably one of the best places to be when it comes to mosquitoes, they tend to not be very bad since it is it typically a dry environment during skeeter season! It is always open season with no limits on them if you do see one. (That is actually in the Alaska hunting regulation book by the way!) We do have a pet on the property. We have a cat named Mincey, don’t be surprised if you see her escorting moose off the property!
