Somerlus Cottage

Retreat Guest Farm is situated on Piket-Bo-Berg, approximately 150km outside Cape Town. Somerlus house is tucked away on a small farm which is part of a large fruit farming business. The guest house is ideal for those seeking relaxation and privacy. We are newly solar-powered and have solar geysers therefore LOADSHEDDING FRIENDLY. There are numerous activities including fynbos walks, trail running, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, bouldering and adventure biking. The space Somerlus Cottage is a 3 bedroom self catering house that can be rented for a weekend getaway or for longer holiday periods. The house sleeps 6 people making it ideal for larger groups of friends and family and it is rented out as a whole unit. One main bedroom and two bedrooms with twin beds / King size, all ensuite with private shower. The main bedroom has a king size bed with ensuite shower and beautiful bath. A large kitchen with all amenities, utensils, and Nespresso machine and Smeg dishwasher. There are two fridges and a Smeg gas hob and electric oven. We also provide all braai/barbeque tools, grids and potjie pot. An open plan living area connected to the kitchen with a large dining table and big indoor combustion oven fireplace to keep warm in winter. The lounge boasts amazing views of the dam and rock formations on the farm. Guests have access to DSTV however need to bring their own decoder and card. There is also bluetooth surround sound system for music. A large covered stoep with large braai/barbeque and outside seating area. The outside barbecue is lovely on peaceful summer evenings. Firewood is provided during your stay and extra bags can be arranged from Otto, our Wood Guy, at R50/bag. All linen and bath towels are provided; guests bring their own swimming towels. We have a farm reservoir swimming pool about 50m above Somerlus Cottage. This is shared with Langberg Cottage next door. Guest access There are many different walks through the fynbos on the farm. There are also more strenuous walks up to Perdekop viewpoint to enjoy the views. The monthly Farmers' Market is held on the last Saturday of the month on the farm next to Retreat Guest Farm. The local farmers and community sell their fresh produce and crafts. It is one of the many highlights of the month and the whole community comes together to support one another. There's always a local band playing and lots of delicious food and homemade treats. Yellowwood Forest Trail: A lovely 1 hour trail through the rock formations and 100 year old + yellowwood tree canopies. Trail running enthusiasts are welcome to run it! Mountain Biking: We have single track MTB and trail running trails available to our guests throughout their stay. We have a 24km trail that explores all over the farm - mostly single track and some jeep track. There are gravel and tar roads from the top to the bottom of the mountain. Great for downhill fun and endurance hill climbs. You can cycle around the top of the mountain for a relaxing ride as well.
