Pebble Cottage - with Free Beach Car Park Permit!

This delightful terraced cottage is just a stone’s throw from the beach and an idyllic place to be. Pebble Cottage is a stunning former fisherman’s cottage situated close to the beach front and local amenities in Aberdovey. There isn’t a better location to be for those looking for a seaside escape! Set within the southern reaches of the Snowdonia National Park, and an excellent choice for walkers visiting the area. Aberdovey is a thriving seaside fishing village with brightly painted houses which seem to cling to the shoreline, and has a history dating back hundreds of years. Parking: There is one free car park pass provided for use on the "Pay & Display" car parks in Aberdovey. The nearest one is 250yds away next to the beach. PETS We love pets and are happy for you to bring your four-legged friends with you to stay, after all they deserve a holiday too! All we ask is that you do not let them on the furniture, and that you do not leave them unattended in the property whilst everyone is out. We also ask you to clean up and dispose of any dog waste in the GREEN bin please. Dogs are welcome on Aberdyfi Beach all year round, however between April and September they are not allowed on the first section of the beach between the Lifeboat Station and the start of the sand dunes/end of the car park – there is a telegraph pole on the beach marking this. Access is via a key safe – you will be sent the code shortly before arrival. How to Get Here From the Midlands and South... head for the M54 (Junction 10a on the M6) and keep going. Follow M54 for Telford (bypass), A5 for Shrewsbury (bypass) then A458 for Welshpool. At Mallwyd, take the A470/A489 to Machynlleth. Turn right in Machynlleth following A470 towards Dolgellau then about 1 mile on at river bridge, turn left onto A493 to Aberdyfi/Tywyn. Aberdyfi is about 9 miles on. From the North... head for Queensferry on the M56 - A5117 - A550 then take the A494 to Mold - Ruthin - Bala - Dolgellau. At Dolgellau, turn right onto the A470 for just over a mile then left onto the A493 to Tywyn. Stay on the A493 to Aberdyfi - about 4 miles. For SatNav users, postcode LL35 0HB. By Rail to either Penhelig Halt (PHG) (request stop) for east end of village or Aberdyfi Station (AVY) for west end of village. The Cambrian Coast mainline railway is also an excellent way of travelling around the area to places further afield. Your host Lisa lives locally and is available via text, phone or email. Aberdyfi boasts some of the finest beaches in Britain with four miles of golden sand-dune backed shoreline running north to Tywyn. The championship links golf course lies to the landward side of the dunes. The beaches are popular with sunbathers, swimmers, surfers and fishermen while the estuary attracts a wide range of watersports enthusiasts. You don't need to travel too far from Aberdyfi to find a different world: that of spectacular mountain and valley scenery. The peaks of the Cadar Idris and Aran Fawddwy ranges are within easy reach and are complimented by the charm of the Dovey and Dysynni valleys nearby. An ideal area for walkers, climbers and wildlife watchers. This cute, cosy open plan cottage is ideal for couples – it has a light airy feel to the layout but also a lovely wood burning stove to cosy up next to in the evening. Whilst the cottage is tucked away in a secluded terrace, you are still right in the heart of the village just steps away from the dogs allowed beach, the restaurants and the lovely pet friendly pubs. There is free WiFi and a SMART TV. There is also a separate enclosed terraced garden which is easily accessed via a short walk from the front of the cottage (there is no direct access from Pebble Cottage). The garden overlooks the village in the direction of the estuary and is a real sun trap in the summer! Parking There is one free car park permit provided for the duration of your stay in either of the main Pay & Display car parks in Aberdovey. The nearest one is 250 yards away next to the beach. ADDRESS: 3 Evans Terrace, off Copperhill Street, Aberdovey, LL35 0HB Once on Copperhill Street drive straight up and when you see FatFace on your right look for a small alleyway on your left in fifty yards between 11 and 12 Copperhill Street. You can park to unload at the end of the alley for just 5 mins. There will be a car park permit on the table for you to use whilst you are at the cottage. It is valid in both pay & display car parks in Aberdovey one on the main beach and the other at Penhelyg and any other Gwynedd Council run car parks. PLEASE REMEMBER TO LEAVE THE PARKING PERMIT ON THE TABLE WHEN YOU LEAVE FOR THE NEXT GUESTS – A REPLACEMENT COSTS £25. PLEASE REPLACE THE KEY IN THE KEY SAFE WHEN YOU LEAVE! Please remember to lock the doors, close windows, turn off central heating and turn off all light switches when you leave the property. RUBBISH AND RECYCLING: Household waste: Place in sealed plastic bags inside the green bin inside the wooden bin store if this is full please take the black bags down to the bins along the front Collection day and point: Early Friday morning at bottom of the alley every 3 weeks please take down on Thursday evening. Recycling: Place in blue boxes on trolley inside bin store this trolley needs taking down the alleyway every Thursday night ready for collection early Friday morning please check all items are in the correct box. There are extra public waste bins on the main car park by the children’s play area LINEN: All bed linen, towels and tea towels are provided for you. If you have any problems you can request clean linen from our cleaner Nicole on 07368 673070. HEATING: There is central heating throughout, each radiator has a thermostatic control and the heating is switched on inside the boiler cupboard in the bedroom. Simply turn the dial to the required heat be careful not to set the radiators too high if you have little ones. The heated towel rail only works when the central heating is on so in the summer just turn the radiators off with the thermostatic controls and that will leave just the towel rail on. WI-FI: Wi-Fi Network is BT-XCA6PN Password is CYtuD4ekeibXQJ FUSE BOX: Location: Above the front door KITCHEN: The boiler heats water on demand and so there will always be hot water available. There should be plenty of cleaning products under the sink for you to use during your stay. LIVING ROOM: Please be extremely careful if lighting the log burner especially if you have small children with you. BEDROOM: The boiler is situated in a cupboard in the bedroom with instruction booklets in the top drawer should you want to set the heating on a timer. Please remember to turn this off when you leave. BATHROOM: The heated towel rail works when the central heating is turned on (see notes above). GARDEN: The garden is directly at the rear of the property – you will need to turn right out of the front of the cottage walk past Mousehole and up the slate shale path turning right at the bend until you reach the second garden along. It has a gate and an AstroTurf lawn. Please water the plants in pots in hot or dry weather! PLACES TO EAT: The fish & chip shop closes quite early and you can eat in too but be prepared to queue in the evening it gets very busy! There is an Indian restaurant in the square that also does takeaways. They don’t have a licence but you can take your own beer and wine. There are lots of other great places to eat but you will have to book well in advance in the summer. Our favourites are the Penhelig Arms in the fisherman’s bar and Seabreeze. The Coast Deli on the corner does great breakfasts and lunches and also does Tapas in the evenings Sun-Thu and full evening meals on Friday and Saturday. If you want pub grub then the Dovey Inn has a decent menu. Our kids love The Fridge in the daytime for burgers, hot dogs nachos & shakes! If you are feeling energetic walk the 4 miles along the beach to Tywyn and visit The Salt Marsh Kitchen (you’ll need to book) they do a pre-cinema set meal at a really reasonable rate as well as an a la carte menu. You can then go on to the lovely cinema or walk your dinner off along the beach to Aberdovey and watch the sun set. There are regular trains to Tywyn from the station near to the Post Office. GROCERIES: If you want to do an online shop before you arrive, Asda and Tesco deliver to Aberdovey. There is a good sized village store on the front as well as a Post Office/General Store just past the railway bridge, you can see it from the park at the end of the beach. Otherwise the Coast Deli sells bread, eggs and milk as well as lovely cheeses etc., and there’s a great butcher yards from the cottage – their Laverbread Sausage and shortback bacon is delicious! There’s a good sized Co-op as you go into Tywyn that will deliver after you have shopped as well as a couple of supermarkets in Machynlleth. THINGS WE SUGGEST YOU DO: - Find the garden just at the back of the cottage and have a glass of something nice you deserve it! - Go crabbing on the jetty – bait is available at the butchers, lifeboat station and the gift shops - Try sea rowing at the rowing club at 10.00 Sat morning (take £3) - Visit the Tourist Info museum on the front for a potted history of Aberdovey - Go to the Literary Institute and read a book or use the free Wi-Fi overlooking the sea - Go to the Craft Centre at Corris and make candles and chocolate bars - Go to the Penhelig Arms and have a meal in the Fisherman’s bar - Opposite the Penhelig find The Roman Road – just walk along the lovely row of houses until you reach a gate to the park then walk along until you see a path along the beach it’s such a pretty walk with Roman steps cut into the rocks up to picnic island - Enjoy a drink on the balcony at the Britannia watching the boats go by - Choose an ice-cream from the Pink ice-cream shop (you can ask for half and half if you like!) - Walk along the beach to Tywyn – it’s around four miles there have lunch at Pebbles Tea room just on the right as you reach the town - Take the train to Harlech and see the castle and lovely little shops - Go to Magic Lantern cinema in Tywyn and have pre-film drink in their secret garden – it’s like stepping back in time! - Play Tennis, Crazy Golf, Shuffleboard, Table Tennis or Quoits at the municipal park in Tywyn - Eat at Blasau (The Royal House) in Machynlleth – lovely little black and white painted deli/coffee shop, just past the clock tower - Visit old curiosity shops (& Ian Snow shop) in Machynlleth - Go to swimming pool in Tywyn – they do family float fun sessions - Jump off the jetty (you’ve not really visited if you don’t do this!) - Go and see the waterfalls at Dolgoch you can pick up the Tal-y-Llyn railway in Tywyn to Abergynolwyn which passes over the path to the falls. It’s a beautiful walk but not suitable for very small children or pushchairs as there are some steep drops - Go to the Honey Ice Cream shop in Tywyn - Have a latte at the Medina Coffee shop (up the little alley next to the Pharmacy) - Get a day pass to go to Macdonalds Spa Resort in Pennal - Go to Barmouth for the day (you can park at Fairbourne - follow signs for steam railway - & get the water taxi across the bay) and try the Mermaid Fish & Chip shop near the railway station - Build a fire on the beach with driftwood at night & toast marshmallows or eat fish & chips - Have BBQ or picnic on the beach
