The cottage interior colors and furnishings make you feel a calmness that will provide relaxation inside and out. Easy walking to shops, venues and food establishments. The space Sleeps 7 Rock Creek Cottage, a handcrafted home built by renowned architect, Darwin Britt is located in the heart of historic Salado. Just a short stroll from downtown, you’ll find yourself moments from a Robert Trent Jones golf course, destination dining, boutique shops, local breweries & wineries, art galleries, and the beauty of Salado Creek. Architectural interior features include wood plank floors, large beams, beaded board with smartly painted colors that compliment the furnishings. Our exterior "tucked" is back behind our family florist shop for quietness and along the dry weather Rock Creek bed. You will find a deck that wraps around one side of the house to sit, visit and just listen to nature. -LIVING ROOM AREA- Your have unlocked our wood full glass front door and walked into a spacious high ceiling open living area. A large comfortable couch and recliner are great for watching our Roku WIFI TV and just hanging out. For cool nights or just to add a bit of fun to your visit turn on our electric fireplace located under the TV. -DINING ROOM- Our full size wood dining room table seats 6. Spacious for your family or friends to sit down to eat or even play games. -DOWNSTAIR BEDROOM - Just off the dining room is our comfy Queen size bedroom with its little details like reclaimed wood for the walls and floors provides a great nights sleep. Located on the front side you receive great morning sunshine. An antique mirrored free standing wardrobe for your clothes and a hot iron inside is available for ironing during your stay. Need something to read? Take a look at our assortment of books nestled in the corner of the room. Comforts of home are there with bedside table with lamps, Roko Smart TV, WIFI and an electric alarm clock with USB charging ports. -BATHROOM- The downstairs bathroom is a tub/shower combo, double vanity, with a hair dryer in the drawer. Forgot your essential items at home? - look under the sink for something to borrow. Plenty of soft towels are available for your stay and located in the cabinet area. Extra essentials are also located in this area. -KITCHEN- Our kitchen with full size appliances and cook/eating wares overlooks the back side with great views to the Rock Creek area where you may see wildlife birds and animals. The open concept kitchen provides for a great place to hang out during your visit. - COFFEE BAR AREA- A Keurig dual function coffee maker allows for one cup coffee or make a pot of coffee to share. We have left you an assortment of "goodies" for your coffee experience. -ART ROOM - Our artist friend, Hollye Davis created this room for adults and children to be creative while staying at Rock Creek Cottage. An array of supplies are in the drawers under the table to have fun. If you choose to leave your completed project, sign your name and date. Several cork boards are there to display your art. We already have a nice collection of paper & rock art pieces. Of course, you can also take your artwork with you. - FRONT OUTSIDE DECK- We have a wonderful updated front deck area with lots of room to sit or just hang out during the day or evening. Soft Motion detected lights add to lighting in the area. -BACK OUTSIDE DECK- Upon your arrival at the front door the left side wrap deck will take you to the back overlooking Rock Creek. It’s a great place to rela We have an outdoor sofa and ottmans as well as a rod iron table with 2 chairs. A gate on the side of the deck allows you to venture down to Rock Creek basin. -ROCK CREEK- We have been told there was a time that Rock Creek was flowing natural spring water but that the spring dried up some years ago. Currently Rock Creek has water flowing if we get rain fall in Salado from runoffs. There are areas that have water falls if enough water if flowing. It is a great ROCK basin to explore while you visit. Any run off water does empty into Salado Creek down around the bend. -STAIRCASE to UPSTAIR- Every wall and almost all flooring in the cottage is wood. Our all wood carpet runner staircase provides access to the upstairs. The stairs are steep! Please keep this in mind when booking our space. Use the handrails when going up and down. If you have children visiting please supervise at all times. -THE LOFT/Bedroom - The cozy high ceiling beaded board loft provides a little get away upstairs to relax and watch our larger WIFI tv while enjoying a full size sofa which pullouts out to allow for up to 2 person sleeping area, easy chair and plush ottman/coffee table accent the room. Two side bookcases are full of reading material and great games & puzzles for all ages are located under the tv or on the right side book shelf cabinet. During hot weather months we have a portable AC unit there for use. -UPSTAIRS BEDROOM- Standing at the doorway the room opens up to a cheeful front of the house bedroom with a high catherdal beam wooded ceiling with arch window in the top awning. The white washed wood decor bedroom set is the perfect match for the room. A blue wing back chair accents the room even more. There is a closet for your hanging clothes and storing your luggage. WIFI Ruko TV is located on the wall. -UPSTAIR BATHROOM- The bath is entered from the bedroom. It has a perfect size shower and single pedestal sink area. Plush bath linens are there for your stay. -UPSTAIR DECK- We have a wonderful NEW upper deck which is accessed from the upstars loft door. It is a great place to sit at our 4 person table/chairs to have a morning coffee or just enjoy outside at night. Guest access - Key Code Access OR Lock Box key…located on the rod iron chair by front door. - You may use the open areas to the left of the flower shop (white building) and the green building (Monarch Boutique). It is a grassy turf area with gazebo and seating. - NO SMOKING or VAPORING allowed in cottage or outside yard areas. - Autos can be parked in front facing the house or across the street. Please be courteous of others and we hope they do the same. Evenings at Barton House get busy. -Debbie & Troy, owners live 3 miles way from the cottage if you need assistance. During Mon. - Sat. their daughter or an employee at the flower shop may be able to assist you. All phone numbers are located in the cottage at the information table in the dining room area . OR you can message through Airbnb. Other things to note Downtown Salado is usually walking distance easily to most everything. No need to drive to eat or do anything sidewalks will take you everywhere. You can even walk across the interstate overpass to Johnny’s to eat and relax. If you would like a golf cart to get around the village they are allowed and fun! We have our own rentals available-- A 4 seater and 6 seater both GAS powered carts are avaiable during your stay for a fee + wavier signed. Just send us a message and we can provide specifics. The cottage formally known as The Artful Lodger Cottage Downtown Salado for several years was owned by Hollye Davis, your past host. In December 2025, Troy and Debra purchase the property from Hollye. She and her family are transitioning to the Houston area. The Byrd's are long time residents of Salado, Debra, a local business owner and Troy, a High School educator / Coach along with their daughter, Ashley and grandsons.
