Description
In the middle of the UNESCO biosphere reserve Mittelelbe and directly on the Elbe cycle path lies the charming manor house Gut Walternienburg with 1 hectare park and private swimming area. Perfect location for larger groups, young families or company offsites. 5x UNESCO World Heritage sites on the doorstep: Mittelelbe, Bauhaus Dessau, Dessau-Wörlitzer Gartenreich, Quedlinburg and Wittenberg. Perfect for cycling, swimming, riding, hiking, cooking, celebrating, discovering... The space The late Baroque plaster building was built in 1735 by Prince Christian August of Anhalt-Zerbst, the father of Catherine the Great, and is one of the most important architectural monuments in the cultural region of Anhalt. The house has a 1 hectare park with ancient trees and borders a small river. You can have the whole house with the park for yourself and just spend a few relaxing days in the countryside. On the ground floor are the entrance hall, kitchen, dining room, green salon, living room, library, smoking room and a toilet. Upstairs are the bedrooms. At the moment, only 4 bedrooms on the upper floor have been renovated, the remaining rooms are not yet accessible, but we are working on it. In addition, the only bathroom is on the upper floor. It is quite small, but adequately equipped with a bathtub, sink and toilet. Overall, we attach great importance to preserving as much of the old building structure as possible when renovating the house. This is also required by the monument protection authority, the house is also protected as a monument in the interior. This is exactly what our goal is: the house should make an elegant but simple country life beyond the hot tub and underfloor heating come alive. In winter, the house is heated with the tiled stoves still present in many rooms. There is no central heating and we do not want it. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee maker, pans, pots, cutlery, plates, glasses, etc. for up to 15 people. We have three small children ourselves and therefore there is everything you need for a couple of nice days in the countryside for the youngest guests, outdoor toys, 2 children's bicycles, high chairs, a baby car, children's books, and much more. Guest access You will have the entire house and park to yourselves. Only the unrenovated rooms on the upper floor are not (yet) accessible. The park stretches from the house down to the Nuthe (river) and is a paradise for children and nature lovers. In the park there are two 300-year-old blood beech trees and some walnut, plum, apple, cherry trees. If you have kayaks with you, you can go directly from the house via the Nuthe to the Elbe. Other things to note As described above, the house is very old and rustic in its substance. So it may be that on some walls the plaster is crumbling or a slat in the old floorboard is wobbling. We want it that way and love the house precisely because of its rustic, unfinished atmosphere. However, we also understand that this is not for everyone. Anyone looking for a fully renovated vacation home with luxury amenities will not be happy in Walternienburg. But if you want to immerse yourself in a bygone world and be inspired by real simple country life, this is the place to be. In winter: The house has no central heating but is heated by various tiled stoves with wood and a fully electronic pellet stove in the lower living area. The pellet stove can also heat the whole house during the transitional periods. It only needs to be filled with pellets every 2-3 days and the combustion chamber vacuumed. The bathroom has electric heating. The kitchen is heated by a wood stove. This way of heating is fun and climate-friendly but also labor-intensive and has to be done by you. Of course, I will show you everything, I will provide pellets, wood and lighters. It is also important to understand that there are always cold areas in the house in winter, such as the entrance hall and the hallway upstairs. This means the house is not fully heated. We have small children ourselves and are in the house a lot in winter, but they are probably already used to it ;). If this is too tedious or uncomfortable for you, you should book from spring.
