Come ring the school bell in the house! The space The house sits on a knoll surrounded by graceful trees. There’s a big backyard on about an acre of land for you to enjoy and relax. The area has very low traffic, just the tranquility you're seeking away from the city bustle. And we've got everything you'll need for a perfect countryside retreat for you adults and the entire family. - Relax in the hot tub and watch the world go by. - Enjoy the warmth of the fire pit and roast marshmallows. - Take a stroll in the nearby Neversink Nature Preserve and immerse yourself in beautiful nature. - Make it an outdoor movie night in the yard with our projector and 150" project screen. - Host a barbecue grill party. - Sit by our wood-burning stove and transport yourself back to the old times. - Play board games and have some quality family time. Being in countryside doesn't mean you need to comprise on modern comfort. - In the kitchen you will find high-end wares from Breville, Bosch, Zwilling, Cuisinart, Cangshan, etc. They will surely make your chef’s dream come true and the entire party happy. - Premium Nespresso capsules are served to give you a great start in the morning. - The formal dining room can seat six people. - The big living room has high ceilings and a very open feel. A variety of board games are stocked to entertain the whole group. - Upstairs there are two bedrooms with cathedral ceilings and a full bathroom, stocked with hotel-quality linens and L’Occitane toiletries. Each bedroom has a skylight. You can stargaze right from your beds. The house itself is also storied. Originally built in 1860 as a schoolhouse, students once gathered for plays and pageants in what is now the living room - then a small stage - and lunched on the sunny slope just outside the front door. The homes foundation, crafted from massive three-foot-thick river rock walls, is thought to have been built with stone gathered by the local community - a testament to both the homes roots and its enduring character. Converted into a private residence in 2003 by a Brooklyn architect, the structure was fully modernized with all-new plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and framing, while preserving the original timber frame construction and exposed beams. Be sure to ring the school bell at the end of the foyer when you are in the house! The area is also a nature lovers' heaven. - Neversink Nature Preserve (The Nature Conservancy) is within a mile. The Neversink River, one of the most important tributaries to the Upper Delaware River, is home to a variety of migratory fish including American shad and eel and a globally endangered freshwater mussel. Its floodplain forest hosts a number of rare plants and wildlife including bobcat, bald eagles and black bears. The Neversink River is considered to be the birthplace of American dry fly fishing and today its headwaters are the source of some of New York City’s highest quality drinking water. - D & H Canal Park is a 249-acre National Historic Landmark. The park features a one-mile section of the Delaware and Hudson Canal, offering scenic trails along the historic towpath. Visitors can enjoy activities such as fishing in the Neversink River, picnicking in designated areas, and exploring the Neversink Valley Museum, which houses classic canal-era exhibits and memorabilia. - The 6,580-acre Neversink Unique Area features a spectacular gorge and several waterfalls, Denton Falls, Mullet Brook Falls and High Falls. The Nature Conservancy designated the Neversink River as one of the 75 "Last Great Places" in the United States, Latin America and the Pacific. This unique area is a great destination for hiking and fishing.
