Suite at Abrigo da Floresta, Castelhanos Beach
Description
The Shelter is a refuge in the forest for those who want intense contact with the sea and nature and a rest from the urbanized world, its busy schedule, pollution and unsustainability. There, you can get to know the Atlantic Forest, its centuries-old trees, its springs, the sounds of the night. On the wood-burning stove, indigenous-style breakfast with roots, backyard herbal teas, sautéed edible leaves and wild spices, green banana chips, soups and beans in stone and clay pots. The space The space is an area of 25,000 meters, 99% forested, with hiking trails and freshwater sources. It borders Ilha Grande State Park, at the eastern tip of the island. The shelter uses a wood-burning stove heat system, through a coil, combined with solar energy, for water heating; and solar panels provide energy for lighting and for recharging electronic devices. It is home to several endangered species of the Atlantic Forest, such as the howler monkey. The presence of visitors at the Shelter helps preserve the site, valuing minimalist tourism that is non-predatory and environmentally conscious. There is an area reserved for those who wish to camp. Guest access The large balcony, with hammocks, is a space open to all, and there is a wood-burning stove. There is also a backyard with access to a large stone from which you can observe the night sky. During your stay I will be happy to serve as a guide on longer walks, such as to Lopes Mendes Beach (2 hours), or to the Castelhanos Lighthouse (40 minutes), or on short tours of the surroundings to present the riches of biodiversity, such as centenary trees, the most endangered species, the rocky spring that supplies us, native edible plants, the perception of nocturnal sounds, the nocturnal sea bath with the bioluminescence of marine algae, or the identification of birds and other animals from a photographic guide that I recently published. In addition, I can guide you on the double kayak ride available for guests, and on amazing waterfront locations for surface dives (with mask and snorkel). The wood-burning stove on the veranda is the heart of the house; it is where cooking is usually practiced collectively. I can leave guests to their own devices, or I can guide them in handling the stove and simple recipes typical of the Shelter, such as indigenous-style breakfast with roots (sweet potato, yam, tapioca), backyard herbal teas, sautéed edible leaves and wild spices (PANCs), green banana chips, and soups and beans in a stone or clay pot. Other things to note The location has a Wi-Fi connection that usually has a great signal; however, because it is a remote location, in some circumstances there may be a loss of stability, which can hinder continuous connections such as a call or online meeting, for example.
