Description

This home is located on the Mississippi River and has an open floor plan with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. It was once an earth home, which gives the home a cozy, cottage type feeling. The front of the home is floor to ceiling windows (with blinds) so you can enjoy the river view. Please note: our interior and exterior stairs are steep and because of the age and design of our home, we are not ADA accessible. Please be careful and watch your step! Entry is through the garage. Free parking is on site. The space We are excited to take on this established properly (formerly Southview River Front). We hope that returning guests will appreciate the small updates to enhance the space they already enjoy, and we hope that new friends will find it the perfect place to get away and unplug. Steps from the Mighty Mississippi we invite you to sleep in, enjoy morning coffee or evening beverages while watching the water or take in the spectacular sunsets and breathtaking views. Hunting, boating, fishing, kayaking, river activities, hiking, walking, and bike trails make this a great place for sportsmen or active families, or curl up, relax and do nothing at all. Accommodations available year-round. Thomson, Fulton, Galena and Savanna, IL offer a variety of dining/drinking/entertainment options or head to Sabula or Clinton, IA for fun things to do. We are dog friendly with prior notice and an additional fee (service animals always welcome). We do not allow cats. We now offer limited wi-fi; guests can now use their private TV/movie channel apps to improve their getaway experience. A list of “things to do” is included in our guidebook. Guest access The house is a private residence and yours to enjoy. Guests are provided with a smart lock code at check in. Other things to note All county and hotel taxes/fees are included in the nightly rate. Due to government regulations the home cannot be altered but we strive to have everything in working order. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. The home is surrounded by natural habitat and you will find an abundant number of things to see (the eagles are spectacular to watch in late winter/early spring). With nature comes insects. We cannot treat natural areas that may put birds or other wildlife at risk. Please protect yourself by bringing personal insect repellant to minimize any discomfort. The backyard and shoreline are on Federally protected land and managed by the US Army Corp of Engineers. You are welcome to use the riverfront to sit, picnic, swim, fish, boat etc. Boats can be kept on shore during your stay. Portable fire pits are allowed in front yard only. Swim at your own risk. There is a strong current in front of the home and depths vary. Water shoes and life jackets are always recommended. Spend a day in beautiful downtown Galena. Wineries, breweries, golf, food and treats of every kind are there to sample and several blocks of shopping will fill your day. Chestnut Mountain is on the way offering both summer and winter activities as well as a restaurant with great views. The Great River Trail is right outside the door. 62.3 miles of trails run along the Mississippi River with a variety of access points in the area. For anyone wanting a shorter adventure, the Thomson Sand Prairie Trail in Thomson offers a 4-mile out-and-back paved path for biking, walking or running. Lock and Dam 13 is South of Thomson and offers a great place to bird watch, picnic, watch watercraft come through the locks or just take in the natural surroundings. Eagles gather in large numbers during the winter/spring months and continue to be seen throughout the year. Dining, shopping, live music, river activities (guided and unguided), golf and casinos are all a short drive away. We are glad to provide recommendations. For our hunters, fishermen and boaters: Big Slough boat launch is a ¼ mile away. Launch your boat or kayak and bring your cooler for a great day on the river. Visit Breezy Beach or find your own spot. Daily pass to launch and park is $5.00. Savanna Marina (Main St. downtown Savanna) has four boat ramps, gas, dock slips and winter storage. Fish from shore right outside your door or launch your boat and discover the perfect spot. Walleye, white bass, large & smallmouth bass, perch, crappie and catfish are popular and ice fishing enthusiasts return year after year. Sportsmen have quick access to local public lands for waterfowl, deer and turkey hunting. Mississippi Palisades Park in Savanna also offers hunting opportunities (permit required).
