The space The idea for The Social Study grew from a Foreign Service Officer’s wish to stay connected to her Ashland roots while posted abroad. Drawing on the town’s collegiate charm and welcoming spirit, the design blends vintage collegiate character with modern comfort — a refined yet cozy retreat where guests can slow down, reconnect, and experience the true heart of small-town Ohio, all just steps from Ashland University’s campus, football stadium, and track. The main living room serves as a quiet gathering space, arranged for conversation, reading, or an unhurried morning with coffee from Goldberry Roasting Company, a beloved local spot. Adjacent to the living area, a dedicated dining room provides ample table space for shared meals, puzzles, or an occasional laptop session, all flowing naturally into the fully equipped kitchen. The kitchen includes essential cookware, full-size appliances, and a bar-height overhang with stools — perfect for a casual breakfast before a campus stroll or takeout from Ohio Fire Pizza. Down the hall are two serene bedrooms — one with a king bed and the other reminiscent of your college dorm room with two adult-sized twin XLs — both appointed with fresh linens, bedside lighting, and ample closet space. The full bathroom features a shower-tub combination and is stocked with plush towels and everyday toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Beyond the interior, a screened-in porch offers a peaceful transition between indoors and out — sheltered from the weather yet open to fresh air. It’s an ideal spot for early coffee, late night conversation, or relaxing after cheering on the Eagles at an AU sporting event. Whether you’re in town for Balloonfest, a visit with family over the holidays, or a nostalgic return to your alma mater, The Social Study provides the comfort of home with the convenience of a hotel, all within walking distance of AU. Guest access The rear entry door nearest the parking spaces is equipped with an electronic lock, and you’ll receive your personalized entry code before check-in. Feel free to arrive anytime after the designated check-in time — no need to coordinate your arrival. There are two dedicated parking spaces behind the home. Please note the driveway is shared with neighbors; kindly use the leftmost lane and avoid blocking the right side.
