Description

Hungry Packer is a cabin that sits on the five-acre mill site of what was once a roaring gold mine from 1895 - 1936! Hungry Packer used to house miners! This cabin is located in the Aspendell community, above Bishop, CA; and it’s tucked in among thirteen other cabins. In 1946, the abandoned gold mine was turned into Cardinal Village, an ever popular fishing destination. The space Cardinal Village has been under the stewardship of the Cluff Family since 1985. The resort is open for its “regular” season from the end of April - the end of October every year. During this “regular” season, all fourteen cabins are open, our Cardinal Cafe is open, and the General Store is open. For this winter season or “off-season,” you’ll find the resort quiet + a peaceful retreat into the wilderness. Hungry Packer is one of four cabins we have open during this “off-season.” We do receive quite a bit of snowfall; CalTrans does plow Highway 168 regularly, but please message us to find out the amount of snow at the time of booking. Guest access This is your own private cabin. Our General Store and Cardinal Cafe are closed until the end of April. You have a parking space in front of your cabin. You’ll parallel park in front of the cabin. Snow is likely, so a 4WD vehicle is highly suggested. Other things to note We do have security cameras at our main lodge. They look out to the front lawn and the parking lot. Also, please note there is no washer or dryer in your cabin. You will have to clean your laundry in town (Bishop). As this is a winter rental, snowfall is likely during your stay. In the even of a storm, we will plow a path to your cabin as soon as possible so you can drive in and out of the property. We will hang a shovel outside of your cabin and it will be your responsibility to shovel out a path to your car and anything else you might need. The state and county will plow the road all the way from our resort to town. Lastly, we do offer WiFi in our cabins. We are constantly trying to troubleshoot and find solutions to ensure our guests get the best internet connectivity. However, we have to add the disclaimer that since our location is quite remote up in the mountains, our WiFi can be unpredictable at times. We take pride in being a peaceful nature retreat, and so if internet is your top priority you may want to reconsider staying with us. Also, we ask that you please do not leave us a negative review due to internet issues as they are almost always out of our control. Thank you!
