It's the kind of place we come to ourselves when we need to get away from the city and decompress, and we think you'll feel the same pull. The great room has vaulted ceilings and a wall of glass framing views of Windham Mountain, plus a wood-burning fireplace with firewood included, so you're set for cozy nights in after skiing, hiking, or exploring the Catskills. The kitchen is fully stocked with premium stainless steel appliances, ready for family dinners or a quick breakfast before hitting the slopes. With three bedrooms and a bonus loft, this family-friendly ski house sleeps up to 8 comfortably. Main Level The main level opens into a light-filled living room with vaulted ceilings and mountain views, flowing into the open kitchen and dining area. Our primary bedroom is also on this level, with its own ensuite bath and walk-in shower. A powder room sits just off the entry for guests, and a mudroom keeps ski gear, boots, and jackets organized and out of the way. Right off the living room, a wooden ladder climbs up to the loft, a favorite with kids, tucked under the roofline with two twin beds. Lower Level Head downstairs and you'll find two more queen bedrooms, one of which opens onto the front yard through sliding glass doors. There's a full bath down there too, plus a second living room with a pine accent wall for movie nights and lazy afternoons, and a laundry room in case you're staying a while. Outdoors Honestly, the deck might be our favorite part of this Windham home. Red Adirondack chairs circle the fire pit, with ski slope views for sunset. The hot tub is right there for after a day on the mountain, and the grill's ready whenever you are. Below the deck, the front yard rolls out on a gentle slope toward the tree line. Around back, a large flat backyard gives kids plenty of room to run, play games, or just relax in the grass. Heating & Air Conditioning Bluebird Cabin is heated throughout with electric heat, supplemented by mini-split units in the primary bedroom and main living space, which also provide air conditioning for those spots. The lower level stays naturally cooler and does not have air conditioning, but fans are provided if you'd like a little extra airflow. Neighborhood One thing we love about this spot: you can actually walk into the town of Windham. A path leads from the property to Main Street, about four minutes on foot, so you're not stuck driving for a cup of coffee or a dinner reservation. Windham Mountain Club is five minutes by car if skiing's the plan, Hunter Mountain is twenty minutes out, and Belleayre and Plattekill are both about forty. If you're looking for something different, Bearpen Mountain Sports is twenty minutes away with sledding, fat tire biking, and snowshoeing. Beyond ski season, this Windham vacation rental puts you close to some of the best of the Catskills. Windham itself is home to two golf courses, and the area is well known for hiking and fishing. CD Lane Park, North-South Lake, and Colgate Lake are all a short drive away for swimming, kayaking, or a lakeside afternoon. Come fall, this stretch of the Catskills is one of the best spots around for leaf peeping. You're also just minutes from the nearby towns of Hunter, Tannersville, Lexington/West Kill, Catskill, Hudson, and Phoenicia, each with its own shops, restaurants, and character worth exploring. Getting Around You'll want a car for the ski mountains, but downtown Windham is an easy walk from the home. It's about 2.5 hours from New York City, close enough for a weekend getaway, far enough to actually feel like you got away. Bringing a pup along? We'd love to have them. Bluebird Cabin welcomes up to two well-trained dogs, 25 lbs max, as long as they're disclosed when you book. A pet fee applies. Guest access Guest have private access to the entire home except for a locked supply closet on the lower level as well as owner's closets and the machine room in the laundry area. Other things to note Wildlife in the Catskills - we are situated in one of the most beautiful areas of the Catskills and nature abounds! You will likely see wildlife during your stay. You may see deer, turkeys, groundhogs, foxes, etc. Please note that we are in bear country. It is very important to discard of all garbage in the secure bear-proof bin (warmer months) or garbage can (winter). All bbq and food items should be brought inside and the bbq scraped clean after use to avoid having unwanted visitors. Bears are generally very timid but they make a terrible mess! The house is regularly treated for pests but being that we are in the country, it would not be unusual to have an insect or mouse make an appearance inside.
