The twin villages of Inverallochy and Cairnbulg together form a wonderfully atmospheric location with narrow streets and alleys, which remind you of times past when the area was home to fishermen and every cottage had its own boat pulled up outside. Today the locals still make use of the washing lines on the shore to dry their laundry in the sea breeze. This stretch of coastline with wide, sandy beaches evokes a sense of space and tranquillity. The magnificent Northern Lights are often seen in winter here as there is little light pollution, and the long days of summer enable visitors to fully enjoy their surroundings. Take a walk along Fraserburgh’s beach and harbour or a visit to Kinnaird Castle and Museum of Scottish Lighthouses, while further along the coast, nature lovers can get up early to watch pink-footed geese take off with the rising winter sun. Golfers can enjoy a round on one of the many courses within close proximity, with Inverallochy itself boasting a course where every hole looks out onto the North Sea. Boat trips can be arranged from Fraserburgh Harbour to get up close to the extensive marine life in these waters, including dolphins, minke whales, porpoises and gannets.
