Historic Studio Between Sequoia & Kings Canyon
Historic Studio Between Sequoia & Kings Canyon
Description
This private studio occupies Bellewood’s original 1913 carriage house, offering a small retreat just a short walk from downtown Exeter’s cafés, wine bars, murals, and farmers market, with Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks nearby. Thoughtfully restored for solo travelers who appreciate beauty, history, and design, the studio blends original character with vintage touches, including an antique wrought iron bed, European linen bedding, a coffee bar, garden view, and shared access to the pool. The space Featured by CACHE (Center for Art, Culture and History–Exeter) for the property’s architectural and historical significance as a 1913 Craftsman home. Once the staff quarters of this 1913 Craftsman home, the Carriage House studio is a detached studio with a single sleeping room, a private bathroom, and a small entry vestibule, and has been carefully restored to welcome a new generation of travelers. Tucked just behind Bellewood, one of Exeter’s most historic properties, the Carriage House offers a glimpse into California’s past, where the garden, heritage-breed ducks, friendly poodle, and thoughtful hospitality reflect the slower rhythm of life in small-town Exeter. To preserve the character of the original 1913 carriage house while keeping guests comfortable, the studio has been equipped with a portable in-room air-conditioning unit. Guest access Guests enjoy private access to the carriage house studio along with shared access to Bellewood’s garden, including the pool, outdoor dining areas, fire pit, and lounge area. Other things to note Bellewood is our family home. While the carriage house offers guests a private retreat, you may occasionally hear us tending the gardens, working in the Carriage House floral and restoration workshop, or caring for our heritage ducks and Barbary doves in the morning or evening—part of the daily rhythms of life here. Margaux, our young poodle, is enthusiastic and will often wander over to say hello. Bellewood also sits near Exeter’s historic railroad line. On occasion, you may hear a short train passing through town—a small reminder of the railroad that helped shape Exeter’s history. Many guests find it adds to the nostalgic charm of staying in a historic home.
