Sawmills have been central to Sweet Home, Oregon's history since the city's first settlers built a water-powered mill in 1852. The industry grew significantly, becoming the city's main economic driver, especially during the 1940s timber demand and the 1960s dam construction projects. However, the industry saw a major decline in the 1980s due to economic and environmental regulations, which forced many sawmills to close. Parco Lumber company 2015 to 2022 manufactured finger jointed studs. While the industry is significantly reduced, logging has not completely disappeared. The industry has become more mechanized. Family-owned wood manufacturing’ Parco Lumber’ made ‘finger-jointed’ studs on this property. Texas builders prefer the ‘finger-jointed’ stud because of strength and durability in heat and humidity.
